Car waxing question
Say for instance that one's terry cloth towels were involved in an unfortunate tranny oil accident. Is it ok to use old white t-shirts to buff off car wax? They are cotton so hopefully it will be scratch free. Yell NO DONT DO IT if its gonna strip my paint down to the metal. thnx

You can get away with it, but the problem is that there may be residue from detergents or fabric softeners in the old t-shirt. Your best bet would be to go get more terry towels or a chamois.

Hmm, you raise an interesting point. I see the logic there, which brings me to my next question. If I typically washed my old terry cloth towels in the same manner as my t-shirts, then they had detergents too...so i guess I shouldnt have done that huh? (I dont use fabric softener, real men have wear itchy clothes.)

Supposedly, you're supposed to wash terry towels with detergent, but don't use fabric softener and make sure you rinse them very thoroughly. There should be a tag on the terry towels that tell you how to wash them. Why not just drive out (or have someone drive you) and get new towels?

haha i have an abundance of worn out white t-shirts and want to find an honorable job for them. Hey man a dollar saved on towels is a dollar closer to super monster turbo kit.

Here's some advice. . .next time, use the old t-shirts for rags and save the terry towels for the wax.

If the t-shirts have polyester in them, don't use them. The poly will scratch the car. If they're 100% cotton, it will be alright, just turn them frequently.
