Default Impreza 2.5 RS -VS- 2002 WRX

Ive got a 2000 2.5 RS.
I cant make up my mind wheather I want to keep it and start modifing or if I should just give in and buy the new 2002 WRX.
Any suggestions?

I'd just modify your 2.5RS. The MY00 2.5RS is about 200-300lbs lighter than the WRX. However, I LOVED the MY02 look but now the bug lights are really wearing on me Personally, I'd stick with the 2.5RS and just mod that baby up. However, you really can't go wrong with purchasing a WRX. Either way, its a win/win situation, just depends how much money you have.

I had a 01RS that I traded in for the WRX.... I took my beating like a man on the trade in value. If I had to do it over, I probably wouldn't, simply because it was way too much money to lose in the first place, and for the type of driving that I do (I live in NYC, the BIG parking lot+ autox's) the RS was just better. I cant do nearly as well in the autox's with the WRX, and stop and go traffic isn't much fun without the low end torque of the RS. Dont get me wrong, I like the WRX, but to get the driveability that I had with the RS, I'd have to spend another $2k. Bottom line, if you have the means and dont mind shifting at later RPM to get the same response (to a point), go for it.

Assuming that your 2.5RS is worth, $17,000 and a WRX would cost $23,000 you could make your 2.5RS faster with the $6,000 price difference. If you want to keep things real simple, get cobb intake, exhaust, heads and cams, that should add about 60 HP (the heads and cams combined make the biggest difference, I've heard), bringing you up to around 225 HP at the flywheel. Your car is lighter than a WRX, so you should be faster in a straight line.

Somewhere out there, cobbtuning posted a thread about how their performance package enabled a 2.5RS to put as much power to the wheels as a WRX , maybe more. Search for it. I think I found it using the words "cobb and cam* and head*"

It was at least 3-6 months ago that it was posted. I forget when.

To me, this would be the best of both worlds. And if you want to go even faster, add forced induction on top of that.

Keep The RS! People don't realise how rare they are becoming. Many people goto dealers and ask for them. I just wrecked mine, it's in the shop, but you can be sure that it's not leaving this house.

Keep the GC8 - they're sexier and more fun to drive.
