"Somewhere, Nissan engineers with furrowed brows are shoving the GT-R's 3.8L V6 into a G35 sedan..."
That time sounds impressive, but I am not down with my track times... what does an M5 do it in? (for comparison purposes) |

hmmmm, do I see a roll cage and racing seats in that thing?
Badass car nevertheless, but how do you define "production car" exactly? |

This is one of the mules for GM. It is basically how it will be from the factory except for the cage and seats and some trim pieces (kind of like the WRX at last year's WBM).
My brother is attending a Cadillac event in VA this weekend with a track day. One of the mules (not sure if it's this one) will be there. According to fastlaps.com, the 2005 M5 does it in 8:13 |

Wow, that is impressive. I've always like its styling, but i have a whole new respect for the CTS now.

That's one badass sedan.
Along with this car, they're also running the Corvette ZR1 on the 'Ring. I wonder why they're not shoving the ZR1's numbers in Nissan's face. |

That is awesome. I knew it would have the sack, but didn't know if it would be light enough on it's feet to pull under 8 mins. Can't wait to see the video.

Probably because the competition for the ZR1 is supposed to be the GTR V Spec and the base GTR is supposed to compete with the Z06?

Everybody seems to know this except GM. Judging by what they've said, they're the ones who think the base GT-R is the ZR1's competition.

Well, that's an independent magazine time from sport auto, the CTS-V lap is a manufacturer claim. If previous GM cars are any indication, magazine times will probably be a bit slower. They claimed 7:42.9 for the C6 Z06 and 7:59 for the C6, sport auto did 7:49/8:15 respectively.

Nissan made 7:29 with Sport Auto doing it in 7:50. The previous GTR was tested by top gear at 8:37 and Autocar at 8:28, a far cry from 7:59 set by Nissan. My guess is that the published results will be in the low 7:50 to mid 7:50's. Afterall this was just in the testing phase with an engineer driving (as good as he might be). |
