Default Why do porsches' cost so much?

I was looking at a used Boxer to beat up on, and damn.. they're not cheap. The body lines haven't changed since the early 90's, the motors are just built/unbuilt per model line, I suppose the only decent thing that changes is the suspension.

What makes these things worth 30-130k

Isn't like $500 for a breakpad replacements? Eh, what do I know? Most expensive I ever owned is...a Subaru Impreza.

Why does any car cost what it does? You charge what the market will bare. That's your first lesson in business.

Porsche is positioned as a premium brand. With it you get relative exclusivity. They are also very low volume with relatively high development costs. Also, some of the technology in the cars is VERY expensive. Take a look at the brakes, engine design, interior quality, etc. on a 911 or Boxter S. Look at how it's put together. It's like buying a swiss watch.

Porsche is just about the only car that loves to be driven very hard. The cars are great for the track and are reliable as well, as long as they are well maintained.

I have to disagree; the early 90's Boxsters were much nicer looking than the modern ones. Most fans agree that the '92 Boxster was the peak, and it only went downhill from there.

They are hand built by blind midgets using only wooden tools. That drives the cost up.

really? I  the 2005's and I hate the fact that the first 985/986's had the same identical front clip as the same MY 996 - damn near impossible to till the difference from a head-on view
