Anyone tried to setup a Corral like nasioc did several times at Indy for the USGP. They met away from the track and got an escort into the track.

Or I just checked Austin craigslist, any one want to share a house or apartment rental? Looks like the smaller ones are 2-400 a night.

I used Airbnb to book an apartment. Seems safer than Craigslist, we'll see how it goes!

Since you are looking for an area in Austin, the main one there is the site Homeaway.

Vintage Formula 1 racing will happen the same weekend as the 1st Formula 1 race at COTA this Novemeber.

http://www.statesman.com/sports/form...s-2402837.html

Quote:
The world's fastest museum will be coming to Austin.

The Historic Grand Prix, which features Formula One cars from the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s, will be a support race at Austin's U.S. Grand Prix, which will be Nov. 16-18 at Circuit of the Americas.

"It's not a parade. It's not a show. It's a real race," said James King, the director of the series. "If form holds true to previous events, we'll have 25 to 30 cars, maybe more than 30."

The cars, from F1's golden era, can have top speeds of 180 mph and range in value from $250,000 to $2 million, depending on the manufacturer and the driving pedigree. King estimated it costs $15,000 to $25,000 just to prepare one for the weekend, which typically would have qualifying and a 30-minute race.

King said that, if circuit officials ask, some of the cars might arrive a week early for display.

"Historic Grand Prix is a great complement to the USGP, as it allows our fans to see the technical and innovative progression of Formula One racing cars," said Bruce Knox, the circuit's executive vice president.

Among the series' more notable cars, Knox said, are Mario Andretti's Lotus 79 that won the 1978 World Driving Championship, Niki Lauda's 1976 Ferrari 312-T2 that finished second in 1976 and was part of his 1977 world championship, and Gilles Villeneuve's 1980 Ferrari 312-T5.

The Historic Grand Prix has been around for about a decade, and King said the newest addition to the field is a Shadow with a Matra V12 engine that makes a distinctive sound.

"It's a pretty unique car. There's none in the United States except for this one," he said.

King is in Europe and headed for the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where he'll drive a Lotus 79 and a Brabham from the days when F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone owned that team.

King said Ecclestone, who has a large collection of F1 cars, has been supportive of the series. He said the drivers were excited to be included in the U.S. Grand Prix because it's their home grand prix and a new track.

King said his group will have a block of about 90 rooms at the Sheraton downtown.

"We haven't organized any pre-race events yet, but for sure we'll be doing something," he said.

Got a hotel room, using "points" even, just a couple miles from the track (as the crow flies).
