Question How long should WRX brake pads & rotors last with moderate use?

I'm relatively light on my brakes, but they squeak the first couple times I step on the brakes in the morning. I think it's morning dew, but I AM almost at 17,000 miles. I'm wondering when you guys have changed your brake pads & rotors, just so I can get an estimate.

Please post:
-How you are with your brakes (aggressive, light, moderate),
-What mileage your first brake pad change was, and
-What mileage your first rotor change was.

You have a long way to go baby. I did the H-6 upgrade at around 25K. My rear rotors and pads looked like day one.

25K!

That's discouraging. The brake feel on these cars isn't too good. I think I might have to price out some SS lines or something.

Unabomber - H6 upgrade pertains to the rears only... When did you do the fronts?

I have 62k miles on the original brakes. Never had any problem with them.
(I am easy on my brakes though, mostly highway commute.)

I just did the rears and not the fronts. SS lines won't be any help. I did those like 3 weeks ago and the pedal still feels the same. I don't know what people are talking about when they say it feels better/firmer. I assume they do a fluid swap at the same time and the new fluid gives them their firmer feel. YMMV.

I replaced my stock pads at 65,000 ... they were half worn. I did ss lines and fluid at 40000 miles, the brakes did firm up then. The Hawk HPS I have up front now grab hard, but toss more dust than the stockers.

2 years and 22k on my WRX and the brakes still seem like new (mostly highway driving though)

My 1995 Legacy has 170k on it and is on its 3rd set of rotors and pads (fronts were last done quite a while ago, just did the rears). You do the math. (The rotors btw have always rusted out before the pads wore out.)

OK... These brakes last MUCH longer than I thought. I think I'm gonna need some SS lines and new fluid.

I managed 55k miles with 6TSD rallies (1565miles, LFB lots) and mostly aggressive braking day to day. Put SS lines and Motul 600 on at 30k, front pads (DS2500) and rotors (frozenrotors) on at 55 (for performance reasons not wear) I could have easily gotten another 10k out of the pads and 15 out of the rotors. My rears at 67.5 are pretty much just fine, although I wnat more bias so I'm doing the H6 tomorrow....

Road & Track? did a report on the WRX they tested and said expected life for the front/rear pad should be ~80,000 miles which seems to agree with my 2000 at 77,000 miles. ed

Alright, I jinxed myself hehe
Took my car for inspection today and the car passed, but barely on front brake wear.
So I took it home and changed the front pads. So, I got 62k miles out of the original front pads.

I've got ~32k miles on mine... the fronts look like they're about half worn, the rears have lots of life left.

My wife's OBS needed the front pads changed around 50k... the rears still had at least 50% left.

My fronts require replacement every 20k miles like clockwork, but I am pretty hard on my brakes. Mostly stop-n-go driving and when theres no traffic im driving fast and braking hard. My rears lasted me 50k though.

i would assume city and stop&go traffic would use the pads quicker.....

and driving hard in the city would def wear out the pads quicker....

I'm in the city too. 27,500 new on O.G. pads and rotors with 2 autoX. It still works great. I've also notice the sweaking in the mornings, or especially after rain, it's normal. I'm thinking about upgrade SS lines and pad during the 30,000 miles checkup.

I'm seriously considering the new lines, though it seems new fluid really makes the difference.
