06 Sti vs 08 Sti rods?
Does anyone know if there is any difference in 06 Sti rod vs 08 Sti rod.
What im mostly concerned with is weight difference, is there any? As far as i know rod lenght should be the same unless someone elses knows differently

I have rods from a newer EJ257 subaru shortblock, so there is no real year to it, but should be newer than 08. They weigh about 583g +/-1 on my digital scale. They have the number 14 cast into the side.

Thank you, I was hoping that they wont be any higher than that. I found 589g in rod weight thread. I didnt know if 589g was newer rods or older ones.

I don't think there is any difference at all from 04 to present... Nothing significant anyway.

06 Sti vs 08 Sti rods?
Was this ever resolved? I’m at this stage right now trying to determine if getting 2008 rods are any different from 2006. They have different part numbers. Is the difference like the 2008 crankshaft where they’re also nitrate coated ?

sti rods havent changed in like 15 years. different part #s doesnt always mean the part has changed in subaru land.
it was 2012 when the crank got its nitride coating. |

Alot of people mistakinely confuse induction hardened cranks as nitrated for some reason. |

you can buy new nitride cranks today. so sayin they wernt made for very long is false. also im 99% sure they are still used in oem sti’s to this date.
https://www.flatironstuning.com/p-19...rankshaft.aspx The Subaru Part # 12200AA430 which is the Nitride Treated Crank, superseded from the 12200AA330 heat treated. i was wrog about the year though. it was 2010 (MY11) Last edited by Titter; 06-07-2018 at 11:59 AM. |

Ok. Well i got a brand new short motor in 2012, which was sold to me as the nitrated crank motor, but it had an induction hardened crank in it.

could have been New Old Stock. was it from a dealership or a 3rd party parts store? either way that sucks.
