Default Austin hill country drive video up

I finally got off my lazy butt and finished the video, with the help of Knossos (black '05 WRX). I had it done 2 weeks ago but couldn't find anyone to host the 20mb file. I've added some music since then. It's 4:20, 20MB. Sorry there is not very much insane, Fast & Furiousnessness but it's my first car video and my cameraman did the best he could

This is hosted on Knossos's home computer right now so the download speed is only about 50k. He'll have a mirror up soon, and I'll edit the post with the new address then.

If you can't view the video you need to get out of the stone age and download the xvid codec: http://files.divx-digest.com/softwar...2-29082004.exe

EDIT: here's a fast4r link

You guys make it sound like we cut you out on accident =)

As for the server, yeah, it is slow, should be getting a mirror at CI Host up today (was supposed to be done last night but uh, yeah obviously not).

Cool video

Two suggestions:

1) camera mount (I know, just messing with you )

2) DON'T zoom in on the speedo to show just how much you are speeding on country roads!

Get a good video of LimeCreek/Volente road

I skimmed through it briefly and here are some comments (albeit they are the same as everyone elses):

-Mount that **** (EXTERIOR)
-I was expecting windy country roads, but all I saw was straights
-That video could have been ALOT shorter and still showed the exact same things. Don't keep shots of a straight road for more than a few seconds.
-For god sakes, where was volente? When I hear 'hill country drive' I immediately think of volente roads.

Here's a pic of the type of exterior mounts that I'm talking about (these are from a few yrs ago). Tiny minidv cams are ubercheap nowadays (less than 300$), and these mounts are extremely stable:

dont you get nothing but "cameraoncar=streetracingcrazydriving" looks from Cops?

My God, I would stop you just for having all that crap on your car cuz it looks like you are planning an event that might exceed "normal" driving.

if nothing more than to ask (like all dumb/funkilling cops) "Soooo...what do you plan to do with that stuff. Nothing, Huh? Ok.. well since i have already killed your momentum by stopping you and your buddies...lets look at all the cars and Pen whip you guys with citations for BS like no front plate and crap like that. Just Fyi, i wouldnt have pulled you over but you were so obvious with that rig on there."

I pieced together my mount primarily from www.filmtools.com

My 4 suction cup + cheeseplate setup cost in the neighborhood of 1g.

FYI, each suction cup will hold 70lbs.

I guess I was lucky because I never got pulled over. Have had my mounts in various forms on cars all around dallas, on highways, austin hill country (volente & lime creek mainly). On lime creek, cars in front of me would pull over ASAP and let me pass when they saw it though

Or you can always use the uber ghetto camera mount (aka the passenger's head rest). Just clamp the camera (works well with the medium sized Sony Handicams) between the headrest and seat: Ghetto mount in action

Or you can EASILY make a mount for the rear deck using the child safety restraints (I have one of these too, but forgot it for the last race): Rear deck mount Just change the measurements to fir the Impreza. Demo of the mount

Neither one of these options cost very much (unlike Sma's uber cool mounts) and give good results...

Thanks for all the comments and constructive critisism I know it wasn't fantastic, I know it was a bit long (had to get the whole music track in there, hehe) and unexciting, but I wanted to try it anyway and it was mostly for the guys that ran with us DOWN to Austin. My battery ran out once we got there, btw so nothing after.

We didn't get to Lime Creek - our destination - because it was getting too dark, and it was too dark because we stopped too much on the way there, and I think took a wrong turn somewhere. It was really fun though, but no really tight twisties, mostly long sweeping ones = high speed. Actually there was a really nice section of twisties but unfortunately my passenger and I were having so much fun that we forgot to record it.

It was a great run. some of those high speed sweepers were in excess of 100mph.

Yeah, i think the video is more of a reminder for the people that went than it is for the entertainment of those who didn't... so basically we just need to make another trip down there and have everyone come(maybe december sometime when everyone is not having to deal with finals and such ) .

Yeah that was probably the coolest part of the movie since we didn't get any twisties on video =)

I submit to you Marlington, West Virginia. G*d himself daydreams about taking his ride for a spin over these roads. (You _do_ know, however, that he drives a Plymouth?!)
