Default Anyone thought of this? Turbo XS unichip questions

I am getting the Turbo XS unichip with no mods other then a BOV and removed silencer and my boost controller will be sold. If I was to upgrade to a turbo back exhaust/intake later will the unichip know how to work with the additional upgrades or will it need a reflash? I am assuming it will need a reflash just as it does in the different stages of Turbo XS's kits. If it does need a reflash how much is Turbo XS going to charge for the reflash if you decide to not go with there different stage kits and just buy your own parts? Perhaps Mark from Turbo XS could shed some light on this subject.

TurboXS stage 2 Unichip program will be tuned for 3" cat back exhaust.

Just call Turbo XS and ask for Mark - he will answer all ?'s

He is 100% professional and very very helpful in every way

I'm getting the unichip also - for the exact reason that it is very flexable for future and additional mods - discussed this all with mark and he is very open to whatever mods you want to make

from what I understand a cat back wont give much if any additional HP maybe around 5hp if lucky? If so cant we just run the turbo XS unichip with the stock exhaust? I really dont feel like buying the cat back if I wanna go full 3" turbo back later.

I am running the turboxs unichip now. I have a scoobysports downpipe and center section mated to a turboxs muffler. I also have a vishnu up-pipe, and the unichip transformed the car. Very nice!

Call mark and tell him about what you have and what you want... he is pretty good about working with customers to make sure they get what they want.

Yes. The chips are reflashable. While ANY sort of unichip setup will dramatically affect the performance of the car, actually having YOUR car custom tuned to your mods will allow maximum potential and reliability.

What I may do is purchase the unichip from Mark as planned this month (even with his stage one setup) and then when work gives me a chance, I'll head down there and head over to altered atmosphere for my tune session.

I just ran a 13.90 @ ~96 mph with a prototype stage 1 TurboXS Unichip, 3" turbo back exhaust filter and removed silencer.

The maps I`m running are for the stage 1 kit without the 3" exhaust.

You would be able to purchase the Stage 1 kit, then when time and money allowed you could upgrade to the stage 2 with a reprogrammed 'chip.

My recommendation for the best bang for your buck would be to buy the complete Stage 1 kit because it is easily upgradeable to their Stage 2. The plus to this being the kit would be mapped on the dyno for those pieces.

Rift is right getting it customized is your best bet. But that isn`t always possible. So the plug-n-play is the next best option.

I haven`t had a chance to scan my timesheet yet but I`ll post it in my TurboXS Stage 1 thread I started a week ago.

Here is what Mark had to say:

Q: I am getting the Turbo XS unichip with no mods other then a BOV andremoved silencer and my boost controller will be sold. If I was to upgrade to a turbo back exhaust/intake later will the unichip know how to work with the additional upgrades or will it need a reflash?

A: As I said in my post on i-club, the Stage 1 maps seem to work fine with a turbo back exhaust even though it was not tuned for it. Are programs optimal and do they take full advantage of the potential gains? Not likely. However, think about this: Are people who are buying exhausts and intakes getting their stock ECMs re-programmed? No, but many are seeing measurable performance gains at the track. I guess what I'm saying is that you do not
NEED to reprogram an ECU (or piggy back) for a good bolt-on mod to increase performance. However, re-programming the Unichip while tuning the car on a dyno is the only way to get the most benefit from these mods.

Q: I am assuming it will need a reflash just as it does in the different stages of Turbo XS's kits. If it does need a reflash how much is Turbo XS going to charge for the reflash if you decide to not go with there different stage kits and just buy your own parts?

A: As I said, there is no way we can have programs for every different modification you can do to a WRX. Can you imagine the thousands of combinations there are of downpipes, up-pipes, mid-pipes, mufflers, cat backs, exhausts, intakes, intercoolers, air filters, turbos, spark plugs, etc. that you can come up with. We will have Unichips programed for typical mod paths. To be honest we have not thought of if/how much we will charge for an "upgrade" to a set of maps when you do not buy the modification from us. When we decide, we will put it on the website.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
