Default Toyo RA1s Great Even in the Snow (Video)

What can I say, I love my Toyo RA1s! Driven 3000 miles with negligible wear, safely through the Colorado Rockies in a snow storm, and a second place at the SuperStreet/EuroTuner Time Attack.

That video got me in trouble. I was watching it with the kids right there and someone drops the F-Bomb!

Good stuff though, although I've made it from point A to point B on 070's in the snow without killing myself. I wouldn't exactly call them great, though.

Sorry about that I should have posted a warning.

We're really talking about survival here and not snow performance I wasn't actually driving the car, I had my eyes closed most of the time and they would still be looking for us if I ran my Hoosiers.

There were turns and downhill sections but the car remained stable. I was really worried about the tread packing with snow turning the tire into a slick but that didn't happen. You can see the pick up truck in front of us which was all over the road going up a steep incline (not on video). It was sliding all over the place trying to get traction and we just motored by in the left lane where it was all snow.

I have another car with all season tires so trust me I wouldn’t opt to run these knowingly in the snow. Living in the Washington DC area I won’t bother changing these in the winter as I know I can still make it home if it snows but I would drive my Legacy GT if I know it’s going to snow.

That's brave. Not bright but certainly brave.

Your nuts. I tried that once, got about 20 miles away from my house before I released I was gonna die because of lack of a good breaking distance and the way traffic was moving around me (no abs too)

Sweeeeeet reminder of growing up in CO! I love driving in the snow, but the last time I drove in it was in a Honda Civic . I want to see how the WRX does in the snow this year !

how much camber were you running on the car, phil?

lots of camber can make the tire "cut" through the crud better. it may have helped you out in this case.

That's definitely possible. We ran -3.8 front and -2.2 rear.

Thanks,
Phil

full tread or shaved? Full tread RA-1's sound like truck tires, so I bet they can move some snow out of the way.

with that much i'm sure it was helping a lot.

when i dialled up the camber on my azenis i was happily surprised at how it increased resistance to hydroplaning.
