Default I unleashed a monster... STi's beware.

I spent the last week & a half building it. Let's see... Start off w/ a new Nissan 350Z. Add dual 18G turbos, dual wastegates, a 4" deep LM intercooler, hard piping, big injectors, free flow induction, free flow dual 3" exhaust & an engine management system. It is based off the ($12,000) Greddy twin turbo & intercooler kit, but w/ alot of upgrades & alot of extra tricks usually reserved for race cars. W/o proper tuning (I just wanted to get it out of the shop), running 6lbs of boost, we figure it's good for 400+ hp at the wheels. Unfortuneately, there is also about 300lbs of audio equipment in the car too. I am undecided about the full CF Veilside V3 body kit that is yet to be fitted. But it's not my car. Gladly I also fitted AP Racing's LM BBK to it. I still have to fit extra turbo add-ons & a complete JIC (FLAT2-RS?) suspension which has not yet arrived. That's easy stuff.

I kid you not, this is the most powerful car I have been in for a long time. We've built 500hp Z's before, but nothing w/ such a broad torque band. It pulls, & pulls, & pulls. It seems there is no stop to the power in reserve. The new VQ engines are strong to begine with & now... I feel sorry for the tires. If you see it on the streets, have fun. The owner is not hesitant about using the car. It should be seen in the major rags later this year. I look forward to seeing it this winter when it's scheduled for a complete rebuild - doubling the current output.

Sorry, I had to vent. After 10days of seeing this car more than daylight & the customer "visiting" more often than breathing room, I am relieved to have it running & gone, for awhile.

yo Hok that 350z with the greddy turbo kit is only able to manage 400hp max with stock internals(or so the greddy website says). i think you misred that he has helped build 500hp 300zx's

p.s. nice to see another beyond.ca member on here!

I thought thats what it will be dishing out after its tuned...? Thats pretty close to 500 I would say...

Is the quote from greddy 400 flywheel or whp?

still sounds like this guy will make it AFAP.

itll do 350 with 5.5lbs of boost at wheel. i dunno how to convert it to flywheel.

edit: hok you might be right, sorry didnt read his post good enough. some extra goods are not included in my estimate. but i dunno if its enough to bump him to 400whp unless of course he did some internal work. but then again i know nothin about nissan's or their engines.. lol

THat's it I'm moving out West! We don't have any cars like that in this area!

Needless to say, I'd like to see that Z! It must be damn nice!

I hope this clears some things up. I will try to post pics as soon as I can. He has documented the entire build on HIS digital camera. From what he has told me, the pics are not yet downloaded & still in the camera. There is a pic online that looks very similar to what he has done to the body. The motor is a completely different story. I have yet to find anyone who has gone to the lengths this man has for both power AND reliability.

Can someone PM me about how to post a pic, now that attachments are not possible. I think I will need to "host" them or something. I am computer literate but not very internet savvy.

Sorry I could not reply until now. I have been busy. But I have some advise for folks that hire others to do thier installs. If you have someone qualified to do your installation, esp. custom stuff, heed the warnings they tell you. If they tell you not to over-rev the engine - don't. If they tell you not to drive it hard until after the break-in period - don't. If your installer tells you that they are not done w/ the installation but the car is driveable - that does not mean it is 100% driveabel as before.

As you may have guessed, my client did not pay attention to me. After I left the car w/ him Thursday night (runningn perfectly fine & perfectly fast) he went out to find out just how much faster I made his car. Needless to say w/o taking my advise he blew rods out the side of the oilpan. Being pressed to have the car driveable enough to get it to the body shop I made the car driveable. We were waiting for parts to arrive anywyas. It was supposed to leave our shop & go directly to the bodyshop. Then come back directly from there to have the rest of the installation completed & some initial tuning. Aparently, my cusomer had it revving high enough to initiate a serious boost spike. It blew apart the reinforced silicone tubing off the turbo! This is very bad when BOVs are not yet installed/arrived.

By Friday afternoon I had the engine out & the body ready to go to the body shop. Initial investigation shows that he was VERY lucky - no damage to the crank or the block, somehow. Monday morning we will have both examined more closely. By Friday noon we had rods & pistons being made for us over the weekend. Monday morning they are to be shipped overnight to us. Amazing how in a few minutes a few thousand can be gone. Because one doesn't heed warings from those that should know.

Now I have to complete the rest of the hardware installation w/ the car & possibly offsite. You see, we are under a very tight time table here. The car must be in Vancouver for a show & photshoot on the 25th of this month. Such is the world of tuning. Only one good thing is coming out of this whole thing. I don't have to wait until winter to make this monster truely frightening... can you say 4.2L stroker turbo?!

Oh yeah pics. He didn't stop by the shop at all this weekend, wallowing in his sorrows, I guess. but I found pics of what it is supposed to look like. Similar to the ones on this site but w/o the striping & 20" rims w/ custom-made Toyos instead of 19" like in the pics. A full Veilside Verson 3 kit ...

he's gonna drive that on a CANADIAN road? One pothole and his front end will be flying over the windshield. Maybe the 20's will help, but I'd tear the front lip off just hitting the curb of my driveway
