2011 WRX - Stage 2

Installed the COBB downpipe yesterday and had it re-tuned.

Sounds great, and pulls much harder than Stage 1!

EDIT: Here is the stock and SPT (stock downpipe) sound clips:

EDIT: Here are the numbers from the tune.

I think the SPT is probably the least "farty" sounding exhaust I've heard.

Sounds great on the road. The downpipe really openend it up.

Check out my Youtube channel for a vid of the stock exhaust and the SPT before the downpipe.

$550 for a set of brand new winters that I can swap myself. Makes sense to me. I like the look too.

I have a custom tune, not a COBB off the shelf map. Stage 1 was pretty conservative, and added about 15hp and 35tq. Still easily noticeable though. Stage 2 is close to 40hp and 50tq over stock. Pulls really hard now! Still a pretty safe tune though.

I have the spt exhaust and I am super happy with it, I think it sounds great, and looks so mean compared to stock.

Lovin it! So for a turbo newbie like me, where do you get a custom tune? I know the Cobb and Perrin ones, but do you take it somewhere and they spend a lot of time tweaking the tune to suit YOUR car?

I am very interested in going this route.

Thanks.

Go to Harvey at Boostcreep in Longmont, CO and he will put your car on an AWD dyno and tune it. Buy a 3" downpipe to go with the tune so you will be stage 2 and not just stage 1

Agreed. My wife has no taste in exhaust sound, and even she said it didn't sound so good. I definitely won't go SPT now.

Everyone has their own opinion.

I personally think the very last rev sounds a bit strange on the way back down. Kind of a buzzing / raspy sound. But that was basically all the way to red line and then free falling back to idle. Not something you're really ever hear in real world driving. On the road, I think the exhaust sounds great, nice increase in rumble over just the SPT.

dont judge exhaust sound by crappy you tube audio, mine doesn't sound anything like that. mines not nearly that high pitched, i think it sounds a lot like the hush from an older 05 or so.

what dp did you go with?

For it being an SPT and just a downpipe and tune, that is pretty darn mean sounding. I have heard a lot worse for sure.

Thanks for the heads up about Harvey in Longmont. I am only worried about warranty but heck, who knows.....

If you need to go back to stock for warranty issues can you use an AccessPort or something similar or even take it back to him? I have read so many conflicting vews of the warranty issues as far as stage 2 goes. I would want to make sure it was re-flashed before going in.

you'd need to take off your downpipe as well if you de-tune and they'd be able to tell the DP was taken off. If you're worried about warranty I'd stay stage one so you don't have to put stock parts back on. Modding voids your warranty so you have to make a choice....you can't have your cake and eat it too.

I know, I know (hangs head). I will get that 1 car that was built on a Friday by the guy who got fired on his lunch break but had to finish the day out. I always get that luck. I would buy the car, break it in, and then go stage two only to find the main seal has gone the next day.

haha....definitely a risk, but that's the cost for fun =). My friend had his tranny blow on his 08 less than a week after he went stage two. Luckily, his dealer was cool about it....but still....stuff happens
