Sure, but I doubt it would have changed things much. I was taking a critical look at the interior of every car I got in, and the current Subaru was relatively on par with most cars in the class, including the well regarded VW's. The Audi's were a bit nicer, as were the less sporty cars like Altima and 1 series. My point is the current Subaru isn't really off the mark, and the new car looks marginally better.

I found it interesting that the 5 door pictures floating around are not what they show in the 2012 Impreza brochure. No roof rails and much more normal looking wheels make it look less polarizing. Also someone mentioned the turned down exhaust: that's only on the 5 door, the 4 door has a single outlet. And apparently 5 different trim levels to choose from.

Are you referencing a PDF brochure for the 2012 Impreza? Link please ... and thanks for the detailed reports.
The brochure PDF was part of the press kit that was handed out at the Impreza unveil. It was on a flash drive. I haven't seen anything online yet. There was also a specs PDF and a model overview PDF. I'm surprised none of this isn't on the media site.

The roof rails only come on the Impreza Sport models.

You must be from the "I don't touch my dash" camp but the entirely plastic doors and dash were a misstep IMO for the 3g. I guess it got the job done and kept costs down, and it didn't stop me from buying my 09 WRX, but it is a little cheap. Even if you don't touch the dash, you find out rattle propensity and sound absorption suffer compared to vinyl covered surfaces.

Find me a GTI without soft touch dash and doors. The Lancer Ralliart and the MS3 were no better than the WRX so I think the Subaru was fairly competitive, but softening the dash and doors is a huge upgrade and really needed when compacts are going more upscale a la Focus and Cruze.

Bob
Well I'm considering a base or premium and the lack of paddles would be a negative for me. But that's not important now, I already decided on the Premium (after pricing that is but if it's too expensive I wont get it or the base)

It seems like the base model is going to be bare bones! It's practically just wheels and a seat lol. With all the cutting they're doing (LOL no cruise control (LMAO no ignition light ring on base model!!)) seems like they're trying to keep the cars in the same pricing range as previous generations.

Robert ... Are you permitted to share the PDFs with us online? After all, it is public information now in so far as it's been released to the press. Maybe touch base with the right person at SOA to see if sharing could be 'go at throttle up'?

Well the ladies and gents at SOA have had a busy week ... (while also losing one of their own to Volkswagen of America), so perhaps they haven't had time to get those particular ducks lined up. This is a golden opportunity for you to help them out and win the ephemeral, fleeting and fickle admiration of a good chunk of the NASIOC commuinity.

Default Bold New Color Choices ???

Quote:
The All-New 2012 Subaru Impreza. Coming this Fall.
.

.
On April 20th, people all over the world tuned in to subaru.com to watch the live unveiling of the all-new 2012 Subaru Impreza. At first, all eyes were on the new design. Both 4- and 5-door body styles were rolled out, along with several bold new color choices. But, the attention quickly shifted when viewers discovered the beauty of the 2012 Impreza is more than skin deep. It arrives at dealerships later this year, with an all-new SUBARU BOXER® engine making it the most fuel-efficient All-Wheel Drive car in America at 36 MPG.* More details coming soon.
Anyone care to field this question: What are the aforementioned bold new color choices?

I have an 05 RS and I was amazed at how cheap the dash and doors had become. The first thing I thought was, I wonder how long it will take for it to rattle. I have 134,000 miles on my car and zero rattles, and I think it's partly because of the soft touch. Also, Subaru has mentioned how they want to become a premium brand, yet they went backwards on interior quality and feel. I was really surprised they did it to cars like the the Legacy, Outback, and Tribeca.

2 new colors: the Black Cherry shown, and a Silver Ice color that has just a hint of blue. It was in the facebook Q&A between McHale and Hill. Supposedly the other colors carry over.

I don't know if "bold" is the word I'd use, but hey...

Top-level management decided several years ago to back out of the premium brand strategy and grow the brand instead by making their vehicles more accessible to a larger potential group of customers. In short, this means they've adopted a more mainstream approach to some aspects of the business, one expression of which includes setting and meeting relatively strict price points.

Anyone want to Photoslop a Camellia Red Pearl 5-dr Sport? (I assume Lightning Red will stay on the WRX/STI side of the lineup and not migrate.)

MotorTrend has a nice gallery up.

Here's the center stack, which does indeed appear to indicate center vents that can be closed, and a distance-to-empty readout in the trip computer. Presets must be touch-screen. It's hard to tell in this shot, but the center stack has a brushed finish, like the Legacy & Outback... maybe it's a darker color, though.

The contrasting stitching on the seats is nice. I could see myself buying this color combo:

Another interesting fact about the new Impreza is that this will probably the first vehicle Subaru has designed since 1970 that will contain no Nissan parts.

I wonder if the typical Nissan keiretsu parts such as:

Glass from Central Glass
Radiator from Calsonic
Brakes from Hitachi
Engine control from Hitachi

will be replaced with Toyota parts such as

Glass from Asahi/Nippon
Radiator from Denso
Brakes from Denso
Engine control from Denso

Safety tidbit from MotorTrend:
Quote:
In addition to new knee airbags and a brake override system, Subaru includes an expensive, hot-pressed-steel center roof brace to improve chassis stiffness and strength. This, along with additional reinforcements to the junctures of roof rails and pillars, bumps up the roof crush strength to four times the Impreza's weight (the federal standard requires three times).

Two peoples first impression when seeing it, and my own as well:

Wow, where's the hatch that looks like an ugly station wagon.

RIP entertaining Impreza's.
