Jolts Under Throttle Stage 1 93
Hey guys I have got a strange thing going on. I have reset my ECU using AP and flashed everything. Now 50 and over percent throttle i get jolting and check engine sign flashes then disappears. After if i try to go again more then about 20 percent throttle a few more times of that i get a solid check engine light and cruise flashing. Stage 1 93 worked fine until i decided to reset ECU by the way. I did a reflash to a different map and then back to the 93 map. The code usually says misfire in cylinder x, generally 3.
I heard that it takes some time for the ecu to repopulate the tables or something but i dont know anything solid about this. I can rev up to red line with about 20 percent trottle and its fine but when i go harder on it (throttle) , thats when the jolting happens. Usually takes a few jolts to get the check engine flashing. Additional info: Jolting generally stops acceleration for a split second

This is a 07 WRX? Can you list all your mods? What is the history of this car (repairs, maintenance, previous problems, etc)? Bill |

Sorry i was writing the message late at night, that "test" sentence means nothing. I am using your off the shelf maps with 94 ultra octane. This is 07 WRX Limited. The car is bone stock. The car never had any issues. I had my shop do all the 96k maintenance a month back so all the fluids, spark plugs etc was changed. The car was working fine.
I flashed to 94 map at which seem to work fine. Then i decided to reset ecu as it was a new map and all, after the reset the above started happening. I tried to re-flash, that did nothing. I tried to flash it to a 91 map and then back to 94 to make sure i re upload the map. Still same jolting and misfire. The AP has the latest firmware and i am using v300 maps. And ofcourse i am using stage 1 93 map |

The car now doesn't start. Engines turns over but nothing happens. Test mode is not working either, the check engine light does not flash when green cables are connected. The ap is not finding ecu with or without test mode.

Had anything changed since before the car wouldn't start? I would try a hard reset by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery for 10 minutes (and then re-connect). Bill |

I did the hard reset for 30 min leaving them disconected, nothing. The car doesent go into test mode at all, no fuelk pump sounds, no fans. So i am thinking its something with ECU. I didnt do anything do any mods to the car. However what i did is connect the test cables while engine was running, the car shut off and now no test mode, no starting.

I haven't re flashed sense the car was last running. I am not able to connect to ECU at all. With key off or in on position i get nothing. The ODB port does give power to the unit(AP), radio, alarm, lights everything works, outside temperture, the car just doesent start, cant establish connection to ECU and cant get into test mode at all. I wasnt flashing anything at the time either, so nothing was interrupted.

Will do, I will go throgh the fuse boxes and see if anything happened. Could it cause a blown relay as well ( I have no idea how the relays work)

Just check the fuses under the bonnet and in the cabin, all are okay, The Pink one under the steering wheel in its own case is fine too.

i really hope its not a bricked ECU.
Issue is the fuel pump or rad fans don't turn on while everything else seems to be fine, and i cant get into test mode, makes me think ecu was bricked somehow :/ Should i call on monday and maybe send out the ECU to you. I read a few threads and my problem seems to be identical to those of bricked ecu, although i dont see how that could happen. I was getting misfires and jolts to begin with after I did right after a reset though AP on my ecu. Last edited by TheEugeneKam; 12-04-2011 at 01:06 AM. |

Okay so i sent the ECU and AP to Cobb in Austin Texas USA from Mississsauga Ontario Canada on Monday at 2 pm... I got it today, Wednesday at 12 pm. That's 70 hours... Cobb should seriously run the world, the customer service and warranty is unbelievable! I have never had a better customer service in my life, i was considering crawford exhaust system, but with this kind of service Cobb deserves my business, besides both sound awesome and gain difference is almost minimal if existant at all between the two.
As for the situation the ECU was corrupted somehow, we don't know exactly how that happened as i was not flashing. I guess its one in a million chances situation. Overall I am more then pleased with the outcome. |

Thanks Bill
As for the original Jerking/jolting issues, i took out the air box and swapped the 3rd and 1th ignition coil and swapped them around. During that i noticed that the air box seemed to not be fully closed but had a very small slant in it. so i took it apart and realigned it as well. Not sure what did that but everything is back to normal I guess a small gap could have made the issue. Thank god its not fuel injectors or piston rings |

Do yourself a favor. If your AP has the USB cable with the swivel at the end of it... throw it in the garbage and go buy a solid cable.
