Current engines are fine, just drop 200-300 Lbs of dead weight.

Better styling, less weight, and a real-world suspension for those who don't drag race, and the Mustang would be looking good.
The 4-cylinder EcoBoost doesn't make sense unless the car is going to weigh as little, and be as physically lithe as the Fox body SVO. Otherwise a boosted 4 is going to be running positive pressure so often that the fuel economy advantage will probably be nullified. The engines currently are Mustang's strong suit. |

I owned 84 mustang SVO. I loved it. it was really light, handeled very vell ( adjustable konis) from the factory. just got tired of working on it. it had decent power too. It had the same power but even lighter than the V8 version at the time. i Love the idea. thats why i bought the car in the first place. BUT the only way this would work again was if the weight went down.. way down.

You had better believe that they are well underway with 2015 MY Mustang Development.
That is the 50th Anniversary of the Mustang, and it will probably be introduced on April 17th, 2014, 50 years from the 1964 World's Fair introduction date. The cars are unofficially referred to as '64 and a half', but they were all 1965 models, for a long model year until the 1966 models came out in the fall of '65. |

You are thinking like someone who has a modified EJ engine. Direct injection doesn't work like that. If they're designed to do so, the engines can run at lambda=1 (14.7:1) even under heavy boost with 87 octane fuel and relatively high compression. Only at high rpm do they have to enrich the mixture. Also, to a certain extent brake-specific fuel consumption (BSFC) can actually drop as brake mean effective pressure increases (BMEP). There is a "sweet spot" that the engine can take advantage of. That's why the downsizing + direct injection + turbo thing is becoming so popular. |

I agree with others that the current engine lineup in the Mustang is fine, though I would love to see the 3.5L EcoBoost in that pony car. I'll admit that I would love to see the 3.5L EcoBoost in everything Ford makes, but that's getting off track.
3 engine choices for a Mustang seems a little overkill. |

4 cyl has no place in a Mustang nor a V6.
V8 for nothing. |

must mustang will be lighter.. and 300hp turbo 4 would be more than sufficient.

hmmm... since there has been a 6 in the mustang since day one...
oh, and the current mustang v6 is a nice piece of machinery and would be faster than the V8 on technical road courses if Ford didn't govern the darn thing. |

If Ford can make a 4 pot mustang, give it incredible mpg, and start it off at a lower price- They would sell like hotcake's!. They would be all over high school parking lots, and rental car fleets all over the country. I remember seeing tons of fox body 2.3L stangs

I'm not sure I'd consider the Boss 302 motor a completely different motor than the regular garden variety Coyote though. The Boss has a different intake, cams and forged rods, but other than that, it's the same motor. I can see it both ways.
