Unabomber's sexy rear end combo review
Parts:
Whiteline rear subframe lockout bolts Kartboy subframe outrigger bushings Turn in Concepts rear differential mount bushings Where to buy: www.turninconcepts.com Cost: I have no idea, I'm sure Clint can be sweet talked into a special deal, but retail should run right around $100 for it all. I have been 100% faithful to my teachings that you should be kind shifting, especially from first to second gear. This is to eliminate the thump of the rear differential and decrease the shock load to the gears. I recently got a PPG gearbox and today remembered, "Oh yeah....I can not only launch like an idiot at ever stop, but I can now bang-shift like an asshat with every shift" I'll be the FIRST to profess that I have no idea which rear end component or combination of components is the key, but since I have all three in my rear end and they are all relatively easy to install and inexpensive, buy them all for the following reasons: 1. After my first honest to God power-shift or even moderately agressive 1-2 shift in years.......there was zero thump! Previously, in my n00b days, I had thump and was warned that was bad. 2. After the 1-2 power-shift, I literally experienced SQUAT! And I'm not talking nothing, but a 100% rear end lowering as power was finally quickly delivered to the rear end in 2nd gear. Talk about kick ass! Who should get these components and drive like an idiot: 1. People with upgraded gearboxes. 2. People really wanting 100% out of their car acceleration wise and realize that their tranny may go boom as a result of their lunacy. Now I not only clutch dump, but I bang shift and I LOVE my discovery!!!

I'll let this review languish a few days and move it. I finally have a honest review since I'm working the car for the first time with the parts that are supposed to do what they are doing, but just dont know what makes it all good as they say. I love me some bang shifting now though.

I can't wait... I have 2 out of the 3 (don't have subframe bolts) but I need all the drivetrain stiffness I can get out of my drag car. Lookin' forward to this.

TiC,
Any interest in making rear diff mount bushings for the first gen legacies (which may also crossover to some of the first gen imprezas)? There is nothing out there at this point to my knowledge, and I'd be willing to supply you with a differential bracket and brand new OEM bushing to obtain measurements & fitment. Thanks Josh |

Is it true that the Whiteline rear subframe lockout bolts will require a new alignment?

It depends on where your rear subframe was sitting when you had it aligned last. if it was sitting on the edge of the outter range of motion and then you recenter it to install these then you're toe could be a little off. If it wasn't that far off center then you should be fine.

This would be great. I enjoyed the performance gains of the Klunk Killer package, however, I sold it since my 95% city driving was hampered by the rear diff whine

Haha doesn't it feel good to beat the piss out of your drive train and know that it's near invincible? It's like you got one of these floating around in your gear box.

In my case, my rear was severely cattywhompuss. We had to loosen the whole thing up to get the bolts in and during tightening, the whole rear end aligned up right. So, I'd say if they go in perfect, get an alignment check. If you notice movement when tightening, you'll definately need an alignment.

Here are some pics http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/...5/DCP_3106.JPG http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/...5/DCP_3107.JPG Here's how it sits in the subframe, you can see how it's sort of offset http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/...2/DCP_3055.JPG http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/...7/DCP_3183.JPG I unfortunately don't have any super close-ups at the moment, but would more then likely pick up a used rear diff mount to send you if you were interested. The stock bushings(all of them) are just about mush and replacing them and locking the rear subframe makes the whole rearend feel MUCH happier I wouldn't hesitate to do this to any modded car and Clint and Tony at TiC will take good care of ya, no doubt |

I ordered:
Whiteline rear subframe lockout bolts Whiteline subframe outrigger bushings Whiteline steering rack bushings All from Gruppe S about 4 weeks ago, maybe someday when they arrive I'll be able to have a nice rear end too! My Turn in Concepts rear differential mount bushings arrived from TIC in 6 days and they are waiting to go in with the other bits. Last edited by BVM; 09-20-2006 at 07:50 AM. |

You could throw the Tic bushings in right now. The parts that you would be removing don't have anything to do with the others.
I have a trick for removing the bushings in a split second. Remove the cross plate the bushings are in. Get a big ass socket and put in on the floor. Lay the cross bar over it with the bushing centered on that big socket and stomp on the bar and the bushing comes flying out No way to do it any quicker! |
