Impreza getting p0420 but why?
I have a 2002 Subaru impreza, I am getting the p0420 code for a while now. I fixed an exhaust leak, replaced both 02 sensors, and i dont know why my car throws this code. It does so after about 100 miles from clearing the code. I should say that occasionally I get a pop sound like a misfire when shifting gears, but that is the only symptom. Does anybody know why I could be getting this or where exactly it can be coming from?

True, people have been telling me that at 180 k miles they should still work but yeah that may be it, is there a way to test them?

180k is enough for them to be weak. If you have the tools to read pid data you can watch rear o2 sensor and it should stay steady and it shouldn’t be cycling like the front o2. If you want to take it to a smog check facility they should be able to use their 5 gas analyzer to tell you that you need cars. If you smell your exhaust and it’s stinky you need cats. Even you car knows you need cars and it’s been trying to tell you! Lots of ways to test. Sounds like your car could have other issues going on. Best to let a qualified tech look after the car.
