Clutch Suggestions for 2.0l WRX swap in SF Forester
Hi Guys,
I'm doing a 2.0l WRX engine swap into my 98 forester and will be reusing the stock 5 speed. What clutch should I use? I would prefer a full faced clutch, but it is not necessary. I don't ever plan to upgrade the turbo or even really turn the boost up. I have heard that a stock RS would be OK, but I am not sure. I have a F1 racing ebay one and it will slip on a hard 1-2 shift with the stock 2.5. Slip as in the revs will hang out at 6k until the wheels catch up. Thanks Burke

As for brand, everyone has their opinions, i like Exedy. i had a Stage 3 6 puck, a stage one, and now i bought a stage one for my DD honda.
ive never heard of upgrading to an 06 clutch from the 2L and honestly, the above answer seems to involve too much thought for a clutch, i would just get the clutch to go with the block, im 99% sure the spline count for the FXT, and the WRX are the same, my exedy oe replacement on my 02 WRX, held 270WHP daily driven, and i didnt replace it till i put a built trans in, at that point, i used the stage 3, because i was launching it. |

What you don't understand is that you don't match the clutch for the block, you get a clutch that matches your tranny whether it is a push style all NA trannys and 06+ 2.5 wrx or pull style which is 91-94 2.2 legacy turbo, 02-05 2.0 wrx and 04 + 2.5 sti. The wrx starting in 06 got the 2.5 engine along with going to the push style clutch setup. The spline counts are all the same, but the push and pull style clutches are different along with the clutch arms, throwout bearings and such. The pull style trans doesn't have a pivot ball but rather a large pin the clutch arm pivots on. The OP is getting a clutch kit and flywheel that I recommended to him based off what he is doing with the 2L wrx engine he is putting in his 98 forester and the fact that his wife would like an easy clutch to drive |

Here is what was used -
98 Forester Throw out bearing Stock 06+ WRX Clutch Stock 06+ WRX Flywheel Lightweight 06+ Flywheel The clutch does not disengage. Any chance the clutch disk could go in backwards or something? The release fork moves, but nothing happens I am not the one doing the work. Any ideas? Thanks Burke |

Well, the input shaft became gouged upon installation and didnt allow the clutch to move freely. He filed it down and it seems to be fine now.

Putting the engine/trans in the right way it slips right into place when the splines align right... this can be a MAJOR PITA and some just say "eff this" and force it with the bolts Bad Juju im sorry to say... keep an ear on it |
