That's pretty impressive the setup and the results. I just need more displacement, or go juan's route and start the car on a diet.

like 1 or 2 posts under the video i posted a small mod list. i haven't changed much since ron tuned me, but a few things have changed in the last couple years. between ron's list that he posted of my mods, and the mod list i posted, it will give you a pretty good idea of what my mods are.

also, i am going to try and get a better video and try a couple of different methods once it warms up some so that hopefully i won't have the traction issues i had in that video.

Is the 16-bit ECU really that much of a hinderance? Best alternative? AEM?

Or is it the combination of those three things together?

My question (yes I could search but what's the fun), if you wanted a 2.5 setup with a 32bit ECU, is the engine harness and DBW the only thing you'd have to swap?

no, the whole vehicle harness and the ecu connectors themselves are different with the 32bit ecu's. it's not impossible by any means, but it is definitely quite a bit of work.

mine are stock 2006 wrx heads complete with AVCS and all, but the AVCS solenoids aren't plugged in since there aren't any plugs for them on the engine harness. what this does is basically it makes the AVCS cams function like non-AVCS cams. since they aren't plugged in, the solenoids automatically go to full retard, and this makes them function as if AVCS wasn't even installed pretty much. you still need the AVCS solenoids and lines installed so the cams can be oiled properly, but the solenoids don't need to be plugged in in order for the heads to work properly.

You should never go full retard.

Dammit you took it from me!

How much do you lose doing that with the AVCS cams vs someone who had a controller?

You would just be missing out on some mid range power. You can get aggressive non AVCS cams for those heads though.

question...has anyone noticed their catch cans filling up with what appears to be straight E85? i never had this happen until yesterday. this was the first time i emptied the catch can since getting the car back up and running so...couldn't tell you what is causing it. i drove 300 miles on the new fuel system setup. then yesterday i checked the level in the catch can, and it looked almost full. so i emptied it, and it smelled/looked like pure E85. right at the very bottom of the catch can was some of the normal muddy oil/water mix that is normally in the can. oil in the pan looks good (has a hint of E85 smell already though, and that normally doesn't happen until closer to 3000 miles). coolant looks good so its not that either...this is something very new to me. i looked around and have found some other vehicle's forums with this showing up occasionally, and i was just wondering if anyone here is seeing this. would like to know what might be causing it...if anyone can think of some possible causes...

When I was daily driving my WRX on E85, I would notice during the colder months, at least once a week, I would find my self emptying the catch can, that I have attached to my heads. It would be a good amount of E85 smelling clear fluid, with a hint of yellow. I was told this is normal in colder months.

It's probably just water from condensation and combustion blow-by... the E-85 tends to make the oil smell really strong, and the water is coming from your crankcase.

i know...what i am wondering about is that in the last 7000 miles i only filled my peterson fluid systems catch can 2 times (looks just like the element tuning catch can so pretty big...probably 12oz or so)...and it always looked like the normal chocolate milkish stuff...

...now, in just 300 miles i FILLED my catch can with a completely clear (like bottled water clear) fluid that smells like rubbing alcohol and the chocolate milk stuff didn't come out until the very very end of the draining...the only thing that changed was the kenne bell boost-a-pump was added in...

...just really curious as to why this would be happenening now and not before and wondering if anyone might have any theories or places to start looking for any issues...if there are any at all...

If you're running richer it would have more fuel make it into the oil through the rings.
Try to light the fluid on fire to see if its water, or alcohol.

well...i took your advice and tried to light it on fire...it wouldn't do anything but put the flame out on the lighter everytime i tried to light it so...must not be E85 after all. you are probably right that it is just vapors coming off the crankcase. i resealed my oil separator plate on the back of the motor right before noticing the catch can filling up so...i didn't really think that it could be related, but maybe the plate leaking on the back of the motor was allowing the water to leak out into the bellhousing mostly instead of going up into the catch can. now that it is actually making it into the can, i am filling it up more often...i guess...i will be keeping a close eye on everything and will report back if i find anything of interest.

Ya man its just extra condensation I've seen it on every E car out there, I have a small cusco can and I could prob drain it everyday I drive the car and my entire system vents through that can, so that helps to keep the oil from getting broken down by the ethanol

My pcv is plugged and I have nothing hooked to the inlet either. I've had about every different style catch can setup out there any I like this setup the best

my catch can setup is almost identical...i have the peterson VTA catch can with both the crank and heads going into it. then i have my inlet and pcv capped off as well. i have been really happy with the performance of it overall.

I'm running a Grimmspeed AOS - should I be concerned that I'm returning excess condensation to my oil pan when I'm running E85? I figured if its just moisture then it shouldn't mix with the oil and would just burn off but since its Ethanol vapor I'm wondering if I should consider ditching the AOS and getting a catch can. Thoughts?
