Thumbs up RS vs Civic Si

Hello. Today, as I was driving on Cumberland just before Forest Preserve rd, a black honda civic si with tinted windows pulled next to me and the driver played with the throttle. There I was, relaxed, in the front row waiting for the green. Green comes, there comes 1st from 5k rpm launch, 2nd, 3rd....Where's the Civic? The civic was just about 60-70feet behind me, FULL THROTTLE trying to catch up. We come up on traffic, both of us, with him on the right of me and 1 car in front. No throttle playing this time. He goes, i pull up behind him, and we are now both on an open lane, but with cars on the right of us. Civic driver drops a gear (2nd..we were going about 35), and i hear a wheel spin for a split of a second (sounded like a wheel spin of a bicycle )...He takes off, but before he advanced 10 feet, I drop to 3rd (yes, 3rd), and I am right on his a@@ trying to make him go faster...to no avail, he had no more juice, i find an opening to my right and i pass him up and in front. Dude stops by, rolls down the window, and it was this black guy (older, like 30-35) with his wife or girlfriend on the pass side. He looks at the scoob, drools, rolls up his window and turns westbound on Lawrence. Any comments?

Question

i'm sorry bro,but there's no way your RS could play like that with a civic SI.you put both cars on a dead stop, launch them both at the same time, with only the driver in each car,no passengers, and the race will be dead even, and if the driver of the RS is a little bit less capable than the one in the darn honda, the RS will be left behind...and don't think that i own a honda,i own a my00 RS,and tried to kick some SI's butt, but the best i could do,was givin' them a race for their money, sorry man!!!

yup, i agree with marty. i've raced against a couple of si's, both stock and modded. i have a MY00 intake, exhaust, afc.. etc. and i got my butt whooped by most modded si's with exhaust, intake, cams, headers. stock si's are easier to beat, but one mistake and you lost. probably was a civic w/ si badges only.

I,ve raced at least 4 or 5 si and beat them and every time i was 2 up and ther was only the drivers in the si.I have a stromung muffler and a track pipe (no cats) and a cold air intake thats it.If we compare everything i was carrying more weight and some had exhaust and cold air intake and i beat them. One more thing for those people that feel so strong about the honda get out off the "i" CLUB and go buy a honda

Auto-x times are very much different than drag race times since there are sooo many variables.

I betcha if I was "theoretically" 5 seconds faster than the average Si driver on an auto-x, I'd probably be around the same time faster than them if I drove the Si, and they drove my RS. For obviously the same reasons, if I'm 10 seconds slower than the best auto-x driver in an Si and we swapped cars, I'd still be about 10 seconds slower than them when driving the Si!

Auto-x'ing is a driver-skill based racing. It may or may not hurt to have a more powerful car -- depends on the situation, rather it depends more on the driver's skills.

LaterZ!
Darren!!

Do they make an Auto Si? If thats the case you may have been ok, but I think it was some idiot who stripped thei badge, went to K-mart and bought an Si Badge or stripped it off another Honda owner

mancounter, shut the f*ck up.....for one thing my post had nothing to with worshipping hondas over an impreza, i was being realisitc. ive been on this board a hell of a lot longer than you have, and i know this board better than you ever will, and from what you said in your post i know cars much better than you aswell. in the reality world with equal drivers the Si will do the same in the QM as the RS, its a fact of life. and the Si actually has MUCH MUCH better highend the the RS. the only reason the RS can crank out equal quartermile times is that itll rape the Si off the line, after that the Si is playin catch up.....and if the Si driver is half way decent he should be able to completey pass you after 90mph...and after that continuing to put car lengths on you. as for the races above they could of happened easily, if the Si spins at all on the line youll leave him so bad hell be playin catch up forever, or if you only race to 50mph the Si might be still be two car lengths behind you, douptful thou. what makes T-rex's story so hard to believe thou is that he said he beat him from a roll. repeatedly.....which is just not possible, an Si would eat a 2.5RS alive from a roll. thats a fact a life, learn to deal with, even if does damage your fragile ego. even from a 20mph start the RS has no chance. if he's very lucky itd be even until about 40mph, then the Si would just leave him in the dust.

"Welcome to I-Club..where everyone thinks the RS is slow.
Race him, take his money, do what you have to do. Just as long as you are a competent driver. You will win the 1/4mile" - Swivel 1000

Take a look at this.

Take it easy guys. The guy was changing gears fast to catch up to me. The people in that car were kind of skinny, but still the Si had more weight. And, if it did have that much weight, if it was as fast as some of you say, wouldn't it catch up to me "once the Vtec kicks in"? There were hard changes on gears, both me and the other driver, and yes, he knew to drive the Si. I have cold air intake made into a ram-air by forcing air into the intake through my pass side hood scoop which directs air right into the intake, not just on top. Also, i have 13k miles on the car, and my 0-60 times are 6.8 the best and 7.1 the worst. Don't know 1/4 mile times. The most we went on the race was about 75-80 mph. As someone said, some drivers might be better than others
scubyracer: i did not beat him from a roll. He was in front of me, he punched it and as soon he was trying to get away, i caught up to him in 0.1 seconds and i was at his bumper with still a LOT of RPMs on 3rd to go.

Mancontour sorry i spelled your name wrong, dont know how that happened. and sorry that i said i know more about cars than you...cuz i dont know that at all, and it probly wasnt true......but i was seriously pissed off at this comment..."One more thing for those people that feel so strong about the honda get out off the "i" CLUB and go buy a honda ". what the f*ck is that *****. man honestly. becuz i dont think an RS can take an Si from a roll (which it cant), i should leave this club and by a honda. shut up dude. and to the poeple saying that we're saying that RS's are slow......when did we say this? when did ANYBODY on this thread say that an RS was slow? and where did anyone say we cant beat anything? where are you getting this? becuz i say an RS cant take an Si from a roll (which it cant) that means im saying an RS is slow, or that it cant beat anything? no one ever said these things.
o and mancontour youve been a member here longer than me i see that now, but my original point remains the same, only 33 posts and your telling me to leave the board and buy a honda. o and ive been scanning the board since june, just didnt sign up until september.

EDIT-jesus i mispelled your name again.

I,m only a loyal fan of subaru and i really hate honda,s because they get most of the attension,a lot of people in this country have been cheated by the car companys by not getting the great cars we get in europe but all that is going to change. The honda boys too by not getting the type R Accords or the jordan civic. And maybe i don,t post alot because some people can,t act like adults. My ten sents was not directed at anybody but at what i,ve done in my car
