so... does anyone know how thick the STI key is? I'm trying to figure out how much I'm going to have to file down when I get it to fit my 99 Impreza OBS door/trunk locks.

Got mine from the dealer and they cut right there on the spot. I feel it adds a touch of "event" to driving the car. Of course I'm sure it adds like 5hp as well.

I got mine cut today. Bought in online for $20 shipped, brought it down to Subaru to get cut. They didn't ask any questions, just took the key and cut it for free right there. Took all of a minute. Works perfectly!

I'm on my second key, having lost the first. After getting used to the heft of the STi key, the plain key just feels so cheap.

Hide the chip in the factory alarm fob.
Just bought an 05 STi....had the local Sube dealer cut me the STi key. I then cut the plain key apart and removed the chip. There's a nice place in the factory alarm fob to hide the chip. Using a smaller key ring, it works just fine. All i had to do was remove a 1/8" piece of plastic from inside the alarm fob. email for photos. [email protected]

After reading this topic, I hoped an STI key would work in my '99 OBS, but it doesn't.
I just wasted $22 on a key that don't work. I tried it right after I got it cut, didn't work in doors or ignition. Got home, thinned it down to the same size as my old key, still don't work. I hoped it would work based on what others have said, but the slots on the keys are pretty far off. So don't waste your money like I did. Actually, out of rage I kinda ripped the blue part off and found just some weird key slid into the titanium. So I took that key out and am going to try and get a key like it made.
