serious, serious issues... need help ASAP with turbo placement
Where do I find a y-pipe that will work with the WRX TMIC and TD04 on my 99 RS with rex uppipe and legacy turbo crossmember? I have been told to look for a perrin one, but there aren't any available (used) right now and I don't have the time to wait for one to come up. Welding one isn't much of an option either, since I have no idea how to weld and don't have a welder.
Are there any other options, or what did you guys do for yours? The following has been solved, thanks: Hey guys, this is the LAST thread I'll be creating (before the project is done ), I promise. I am getting so close to having everything complete that I'm just getting restless now. I am having some clearance issues with the turbo placement, and am thinking I may have done something wrong. I've been troubleshooting for a couple hours now and it seems like we are doing everything properly. If anyone would like to help, I'd prefer to keep it via PM/MSN Messenger (I can do AIM if needed though). I have pictures and can provide any info you need, just that I'd like to actually be able to talk to someone instead of doing the "post and hope" type thing after search has failed me. so your looking for that silicone Y pipe piece to go from your turbo to both holes on the bottom of your IC correct?

Yep. The hard plastic one doesn't work with my sohc intake manifold. I was told the perrin one would work, and have a chance to get a samco one as well, but am unsure if the samco silicone will work.

why don't you see if anyone in your area has one you could borrow for a "test fit" ?
if it doesn't....you could always make your own for prolly a little less... |

hmm I would like to know as well since i have the oem wrx y pipe and tmic and I will place this on my 00 rs.
Basically the perrin one is flatter and not so huge with a one piece design (includes the elbows). |

this is the one thing that has been keeping me up at night. I have everything in the mail...but i'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to mount/ connect the turbo to the IC and also how i'm going to fab an inlet pipe for the turbo....how did you fix your turbo placement issue? I have SOHC intake mani so iwould also like a solution. Can you post pics of why it isnt working?

I did the parallel fuel delivery mod found on scoobymods. 3. Perrin Y-pipe on top of cutting 1/2" off the throttle body and 1/2" off the TMIC so everything fits properly. The reason you have to use the perrin Y as opposed to the stocker is that it is more flexible and a bit longer so that it will reach the turbo. I couldn't find a way to get the stocker to do so, so I sucked up the $150 and bought myself a perrin Y (no used ones for sale). 4. Pics to come when I get my new valve solenoid (broke the old one) and get everything together. I'll post up a DAMN good tutorial for anyone trying this, since I had many more issues than anyone else seems to have talked about in a single tutorial/faq. |

*bump* for Y-pipe issues still plaguing me.
Does anyone have pictures of their setup on a SOHC car? There's that black plugin that is in the way of my Y-pipe so that it can't hook up to my turbo. I'm using the WRX TMIC and TD04 with WRX headers/UP with the 20mm spacer (as recommended by the rs25 AFI guys). |

RS25 is king once again
It looks like I'm going to have to pull a PhilSine (the ultimate DIY guy ) and chop the stock Y-pipe a little bit and run a rad hose from the turbo to the Y. |

Don't forget to use an exhaust pipe adapter to go from the hose to the inlet of the Y-pipe.

Umm....
So many parts...so long ago... I honestly don't remember. I had the turbo and Y-pipe in hand when I went to the parts store to sift through th eexhaust adapters and stare at the radiatior hoses. For some reason, 1 7/8" is sticking out in my mind. Anyways...have the Y-pipe with you when you go in. |

I still need to go back in (figuratively speaking) and reconfigure my turbo-out to Y-pipe in set-up. I'm not completely happy with the angle it takes and it stresses the Y-pipe the way I have it set-up.
I will redo it before winter but after I get my new clutch put in and finally finish the fine tuning. Its pretty much tuned but there are some points where it's hard to distinguish between a flaw in the tune or a slipping clutch. |

so glad I can mooch of you guys before I get to fab this up....of course its only the inlet and tmic issues..
Anyone got a BOV that sounds decent and fits the wrx tmic and doesn't hit the hood. |
