This is in a SOA safety bulletin, I believe if you take your car to a dealer they will fix it.
Read up on it here; http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=131755 Jay-R |

Sounds like the 'ol space-shuttle o-rings have shrunk and/or compressed and you now have a fuel leak.
See above: there is a service bulletin and take it to the dealer. |

recall?
I bet it's free to the car owner b/c it's emisssions related and seems to be a factory defect in an emissions related system. Just a guess. Let's hear some people who actually had it fixed and what Subaru of America had to say about it.
BTW if a Subaru dealer tries to make the car owner pay, as a car owner, I would then make a call to SoA and see if they will reimburse. THen if SoA still does not reimburse, I would contact NHTSA on the web and file a formal complaint. It's easy, lots of ppl complain there (for valid and invalid reasons IMO). |

Nhtsa
NHTSA might take notice for gas leaks.
In the NHTSA the "S" stands for safety and gas leak is not safe. I bet if someone catches fire in a subaru due to one of these gas leaks, and the NHTSA knew about it and did nothing, and Subaru knew about it and did nothing, and the dealers knew about it and did nothing, there is a good chance a congressman will know about it, AND HE/SHE MIGHT BE TALKED INTO DOING SOMETHING and heads will roll somewhere either at NHTSA, Subaru, or the dealers. So that's why I think there is a chance your gas leak might get fixed for free to the owner. |

Like I said in post #2, there is a Safety message from SOA on this subject. If you search you will find it, or better yet call your local Subaru Dealer. I got my wifes fixed FOR FREE.

The fuel smell is NOT free for everyone. It is NOT a safety recall. All the service bulletin does is tell the tech there is a new part to use that will solve the issue and thats all it is.
If you have a SAS Contract and still under Warranty it will be fixed free. If you don't have one, you can call SOA and they might agree to reimburse you. Then again they pay customers who had Firestone sell them a 1200 catalytic converter because Firestone claims Subaru denied their warranty when the car never went to a dealer. |

Lets see, my wifes 02 Wagon 160,000 miles 3 months ago fixed for free....
I just took it to the dealer with a copy of the safety message. Never paid a dime and never had to call SOA. No warranty whatsoever left on her car. Jay-R Quote:

At the rate Subaru owners are heading for the dealers, it might just become a Recall.
I would like to hear the stories of the ones that had to pay as well as how they approached SOA. blackfang is right about what the TSB is to a Subaru Tech, thats the same thing the dealer told me. I would of bit the bullet and paid just to get the safety issure out of the way. I went on this site and searched and found out many more people were having this issue along with the number to call SOA. Thanks Nasioc Members!! |

They may have fixed it for free as a goodwill, and good on them but nothing states they have to. We goodwill alot of things, but that doesnt mean everyone gets that and some of the time it is up to the rep. There is no Safety recall, but just a TSB showing the new part to be used.
In this thread, some have gotten it for free and some have paid half for it. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...131755&page=45 I have only seen 3 so far. |
