Sounds good John, I've already got David's harness with 6V lead so I'm 1/2 way there.

Standard MINy Rydeen it shall be when I get around to this project.

Thanks,
Jim

Think I may get the Rydeen DUo

Stole this pic from the BRZ forums. Pretty much how I want mine to look on my 2012 sedan. The center trunk trim has the perfect mounting spot for it.

That looks good, damn hatch has the lift button in the center there. All our applications are off center.

So I got to thinking. Because my radio had a little glue on it, the company also decided to ship it with this cable pack.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MESE:IT

That seems to include the back up camera harness, a USB harness (no idea where that goes), and a Red Yellow White Composite harness. Would I be able to use that harness with something like this

http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC...osite-av-cable

to play ipod videos on the screen?

I know you all said it was pointless, but I already have the radio harness, just need to source the ipod one. Just dont want to spend $20-$40 on the ipod cable if it won't work.

Careful with those apple cable. Sometime it doesn't work with certain device and certain firmware.

I had actually considered the DUO But found the dealer that had them locally did not stock that model. Further, he noted that it cannot be angled to get the proper view. (Probably a non issue, but...) In any event, I bought what they had in stock and installed where the stock camera goes. It is barely visible from behind. Now that I have one, I am starting to notice other vehicles on the road with them when sitting at a light. Some are so well concealed it is very difficult to find them. Others stick out like a sore thumb.

On another note, I see on the news that there is a group, along with the former head of the NHTSA, that are trying to mandate backup cameras on all new vehicles sold in this country. Evidently, there was a little girl someplace that would have been spared if someone could have seen the blind spot behind the car, and many are convinced of that.

"While the decision has already been delayed numerous times, NHTSA is expected to to deliver a ruling on mandatory back-up cameras by the end of the month.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood promised in letters to congressional leaders back in February that a decision would be made in the case by Dec. 31, 2012. The new law will make back-up cameras mandatory equipment for every new car, and if passed, will likely begin with model-year 2014 vehicles.
The ruling is meant to combat accidents that occur while backing up, as NHTSA estimates that 228 people are killed, and 17,000 are injured every year as a result of back-up accidents.
The biggest issue under review is the cost to automakers and consumers if the law is passed, which is estimated at an extra $58 to $203 per vehicle. Car companies don’t think consumers will want to pay for the extra technology, and that if back-up cameras are made mandatory, it could hurt sales.
Some groups, such as the Center for Auto Safety expect the ruling by the end of the month, but other advocacy groups claim that the date will likely be pushed back again. “I don’t think it could happen by 2014, so they will have to give some leeway,” said Gloria Bergquist, a spokeswoman for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers."

In any case, I can say that backing down a long driveway in the dark is much easier with the camera than without. If you have a HU that supports it, why not?

Default forester security

Hello to all. I have buy head unit from ebay UK. And i put this head unit model no PF-3303B-A to my forester 2009(because stock head unit is very ugly)... when i turned it on, i see on the screen bottom SECURITY logo... and that logo is every time. So i cannot see the last line on screen. FM/CD fully working, but when i go to settings i cannot see the last line(because that security). What i need to do?

So what is the best model to get that has the HD radio, Sat, and does not have the limited USB file/folder read capability? I may keep an eye out for one of those.

This should keep me from getting an expensive HU for a while. Love the fact it is plug and play, and works with everything perfectly.
Awesome upgrade.

Did you notice if the FM tuner was any better even though it doesn't include hd radio?? I'm very interested in this small upgrade. I'm assuming it'll work for a 2013?

I'm also curious if someone might have a screen shot when using pandora, and if ill to resync my bluetooth again after installing the new radio.

Thank you in advance!

I'm sorry I haven't tested the FM radio enough to give you an answer. Hell I never used the FM on my stock radio to have a baseline to compare the new one to

I can confirm that USB, Bluetooth, and CD's sound a hell of a lot better. The old radio would distort around 30 volume level. This one sounds great in the louder range.

I cannot confirm fitment on a 2013, but I don't see why it wouldn't. I doubt Subaru changed their wiring just for one model year.

I have yet to use pandora, but I can test it out tomorrow and snag a shot real quick. Also yes you will need to re-set bluetooth. It is a lot easier with the new screen though.

I installed the CP435L1 linked by tsigeoff into my 2011 WRX a couple weeks ago and as stated multiple times already it is a dramatic improvement over the stock head unit.

My impressions might be skewed a little since I have a JBL MS-8 installed already, but the FM tuner is definitely better than the stock unit even without the HD radio option. The stock unit had some serious shortfalls when it came to full range response from what I could tell. My MS-8 couldn't even clean it up to what I would consider acceptable listening quality. While this new unit's radio isn't CD or iPod quality sound, it is on par with most stock FM tuners I've heard.

I was interested to see if I could hear any sound quality improvement from this unit over the stock unit so I did a direct swap without a re-calibration on the MS-8, and the FM tuner was by far the biggest improvement in SQ.

Hope that helps.

I'm also currently working on a Rydeen MinY install, and have gotten as far as routing wires and doing a test for functionality while I wait for my 8-pin connector.

Radio worked great in my 2013 WRX. I personally like the HD radio feature as I do get the HD signal. It's a pretty big difference.

Thanks for the responses. And I'm also sure it's been stated and I've missed it, but I'm assuming steering wheel controls work as they should without modification as well, correct?

I've found the hd radio version on eBay for $500, but I'm not sold its worth the $300 markup over the none hd I can have shipped from China. Satellite radio isn't a concern for me.

Works even better in my 2013 XV Crosstrek!

I'm with you too bro, HD Radio is soooooo nice. I love it! This HU, in combination with the factory OEM upgraded Kicker 6.5's in the doors, tweeters, Helix Audio PP50DSP Amp/DSP plug-n-play unit and Helix Audio PP7E plug-n-play sub-woofer are all I need. Fantastic sound and no one knows it's all in there... stealth mode FTW.

Thanks again my friend!

They work perfectly with the "Type B" HU. Same as they did with my OEM stock "Type A" unit.

Excellent thanks.

One month ago I said I'd spend no money on this car. Ha! I'm not even halfway to break in yet.

No problem at all. And we ALL say that! Lol!!

I was pulling door panels off on the 2nd day of ownership to install the Kicker speakers. Car had 135 miles on the ODO.

They were "freebies" in the deal, and I wanted to install them myself.

Good luck!

I snapped a quick shot of what pandora looks like. It is the same as streaming any other music app from you phone. And steering wheel controls do work to skip songs in Pandora.

Perfect - that's exactly what I was hoping, thank you! Will probably order the 'Type B' today.

OT - but how to do get the mpg to show up on the temp/clock display?? I've been looking for buttons thinking something else must show up there!

For what it's worth, this functionality depends on your phone having the proper version of the AVRCP (audio/video remote control protocol) over Bluetooth. Stock versions of Android (Nexus phones, etc) only have version 1.2, and the ability to display metadata - song names - was introduced in version 1.3.

Most iDevices and new Samsung Galaxy phones have at least version 1.3.

I have no idea why Google hasn't gone past 1.2 in stock Android. Time to root my Nexus 4...

Not a problem. The display depends on what vehicle you have. On the US 08+ WRX/STI the avg. mpg only shows up if you have the odometer set to Trip A or Trip B. It will display the average mpg for the miles displayed on that trip. The odometer button is on the gauge cluster.

Apparently the Canadian 08+ WRX/STI also will display the instantaneous mpg if you just have it set to the regular odometer.

Thanks for that info. I was unaware of this issue, guess it would help if I included that I'm using an iPhone 5.
