5zigen zr+ help
So I want the above stated wheels for an 00 legacy gt limited in either an 18x7.5 with +47 offset or a 17x8 also +47. So they work, I know that from the chart floating around, but what size tire is good for the setups?

225/40-18 is the best size for the 18" and 225/45-17 for the 17"

225/50/17 sounds like rub juice to me.

Not to mention handling wouldn't be as good with the 50 series. Listen to DLC. Also, for future reference, if you look at the specs for the tire you are considering, on sites like TireRack, it lists the "ideal" wheel size as well as the acceptable range. JS |

On a regular BE/BH, 225/50/17 won't fit. I believe silentracer tried on his car awhile back. On the outbacks with the extra 1-2" of lift, it probably can (I think the stock tire size for the outbacks are taller to begin with, no?) |

so if I went with 225/40/18's then would I be able to lower it? I want the h&r wagon springs (on a sedan, haha) which lower it quite a bit. Perhaps smaller tires? Although my options would run thin at that point, right. So I may be better going with a 17x7 wheel, and some slightly smaller tires. But I really want to go all out, I've never had a good wheel and tire setup, just a Frankenstein mixture of stuff on sale that never really worked, but just looked good.
Oh, and I don't really trust tire rack, they are the ones who calculated my last setup to fit, and it didn't do so well. Besides, nothing makes up for good ol' experience, right? |

GREAT tool for this topic: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Of course that tool doesn't really tell if the tire/wheel will fit without rubbing, but is a start. JS |

205 55 16 and a 215 45 17 are the closest you can get to each other in size...

i checked again and my guy said that they(225/50/17) would work on a stock Legacy GT from 2000-2004. speedo would be around 2mph faster than the car is going.

http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic....&highlight=225 Math maybe math, but all those tire calculators DO NOT take into account fender and suspension clearance, along with wheel offset. If you're using stock offset (+55) it WONT fit because the tire will rub the front suspension of a regular Legacy. On the Outback, the increased ride height WILL allow those tires to fit. |

Umm, you just compared the posts from two different peeps...I've said they wouldn't fit the whole time...and I already said that the tire calcs are just a start, as they don't tell you whether they will rub or not.
