well, the spec B and STi trannies can handle the abuse you are gonna put them through (very similar, as I understand just different ratios), but you'd still be much better off having a friend with a manual at least show you the ropes. With as many miles as you drive, I'd def opt for the luxury, gas mileage, and longer gearing of the Spec B over the STi.
If you don't have a friend that can teach you manual, it would be worth a few hundred bucks to get a really crappy, but running, beater car with a manual trans to learn on. If it saves you a single clutch it more than pays for itself between parts/labor/hassle. If you want some tips on learning a manual trans, PM me. I just taught my sis and she had it down pretty well in about an hour and a half.

learn to drive stick, it is worth it, as someone else said. lower maintenance, slightly better gas mileage sometimes, and MUCH more fun to drive. just relax, take your time, and try to understand what you actually have to do before you do it. It would help if you had someone else in the car with you who knows.

He must have a friend or member on the boards in his area that could teach him. Maybe throw em a 12 pack for their time.

Update
Thank you all for you advice. I'll bug my bro to teach me how to drive stick. I got the car back, service rep said there's nothing wrong w/ the car, couldn't find any code. hmm I got nothing so say, So I went for a drive, when I floor it, at 2nd gear @ around 5500rpm car jerks violently and all the lights comes on and off some times car's recovers one time car stalls. So I got it on my phone video and will show service rep tomorrow again. I floor it about 5 times, and 4 times car jerked bad and one time car stalls then no more flooring it. I don't want SUBARU anymore LOL.

another easy way to learn to drive stick quickly if your friends arent around is through drivers schools. those who prepare pimply teenagers for their drivers tests. ya all of them teach on automatic but many have standard option to learn as well. you dont have to buy the whole 20 hours package or whatever. Was really cheap and flexibe with hours I remember.
I was buying my first car that was standard intentionaly. I didnt want to beat on my car so I bought 2 hours of driving from drivers school. Many of them good and experienced teachers and know what to say and what to make you do. Often its not enough to be good at stick to teach it. I knew the basic stuff before and some friends were not good teachers at all. Actually, drivers school is a good way to learn how to teach as well, I taught most of my gfs how to handle a stick successfully . The teacher was good, he condensed all important stuff in 2 lessons, like hills downshifts, etc. Obviously 2 hours isnt enough and mostly practice makes it perfect, however, i was able to drive my car of the lot without stalling. Within a week of driving in my own car my skills were up to par. |

ATF guages, off topic advise on learning to drive stick, a guy that lol's after every sentence, and a dealership who says there is nothing wrong with his car.
This thread has it all. |

Ya ya
More trouble w/ my crap Subaru. My car stalled right after I started car. Car idles funny like it's gonna stall and rpm goes back up to normal. Talking to regional rep probably wouldn't solve anything. At least I got many reasons to get a new car. BMW M3 I can get for only $67k, but I really want C63, I'll trade in my C32 for it. For all you haters in this NASIOC LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL.

This may sound dumb to some people but i had a similar problem when i first installed my FMIC. If one of the rubber pieces was not on correctly under boost it would make a squealing noise and then pop off and the car would just shut off. Im thinking if maybe you have a leak somewhere between the turbo or the throttle body then that might cause the wierd idle and the car to shut off for no reason... just taking a guess at it.

Why would you say that?
The regional rep has the authority to make sure you get this fixed. I understand wanting out of the car but at least get the problem diagnosed before offing it on some poor unsuspecting person/stealership. Call the rep, the dealership appears to be incompetent. LOL |

1) bitches about noticing 4.00 a tank for diesel or what ever he was talking about but is willing to lose money on trades like bomb burrito diarrhea and will blow 63K on a new BMW
AND I quote "Diesel here is around $4/gallon and at 13 gallon its gonna be $52. I'll notice the 4 bucks difference LOL kinda anal when it comes to numbers." No, you are anal about what you WANT not what makes sense and is rational. Buy a toyota corolla and last but not least...LOL!! Last edited by peterdaniel; 03-28-2008 at 04:09 AM. good call on the BS. it does seem odd.
I called the SOA hotline to ask about SPT parts delays, because i thought the dealership was giving me the "yea yea" treatment. SOA called the dealership to see what was going on. I got a return call from SOA, then got a call from the dealership. they validated what SOA told me. worth calling the regional rep. always |

It sounds like you need to learn how to drive your car and concentrate less on keeping it at WOT all the time.

SOA just changed over their computer network on March 1st and it has been a rough transition. I placed an order on the 5th with a dealership and they just received the last of the parts yesterday.
