Default Is there an easy way to remove pinstriping without taking the car paint off??

Hello,
I want to redo the pinstriping on my car as the original ones are "rubbing off" or fading, looks terrible. Is there a way to remove them without taking the cars paint with it? The car paint is black and the striping is either white or gray.
Please suggest a way.
Thanks.

Is the pinstripe painted on or of the decal-type? I have pulled off decal-types in the past without removing any paint. Just have to take your time and go sloooooooooow.

Depends how old the stripe is. When I used to pinstripe/letter for a living, I advised using draino. Use at your own risk.

I once had a black toyota mini truck that came from the factory with adhesive stripes on the sides. I used lots of bug & tar remover, and rolled the graphics off slowly and carefully. Kinda like getting the stickie off after debadging my Subie.

Removed mine last year. Used bug and tar remover. Sprayed it on, let it set a few minutes, then peeled it back slowly. It takes a lot of time. Followed it up with some wax and it's gone.

Heat gun at a distance of 6-8" should let you peel it off or scrape it off with a plastic blade scraper. Bug-Tar remover claybar ect... should take off any remaining residue. Like BeatLA stated its time consuming. If the pin striping has been on the car for years it may leave a permanent mark-depression-line in the paint that can only be fixed with repainting

just get the corner of the pinstrip and start getting it off. Just go slow and it will come off easy.

just peel it off.. use a blow dryer to heat the adhesive if needed.. then wash/polish/wax.

Wait for a day when it's 112 degrees and use a pressure washer. That's what I did when I worked at the Saturn dealership... It was 112, and as I washed the cars on the lot, I blew the ****ing pinstriping off a car.

Go to a car paint place and get a vinyl eraser wheel. Its basically an eraser wheel you put in a drill and just rub it off. Then its just a little lacquer thinner and your done. That's what we used at the body shops I have worked at and I us it at home for pinstripe as well as decals.

this is how you are SUPPOSED to do it. I've removed numerous pinstripes with my wheel, as well as countless decals and stickers. Haven't damaged any paint yet, just watch it on white fiberglass, it WILL burn fiberglass if you aren't careful. (not a worry with a vehicle though)
