I think you need to stop throwing parts at the problem for the time being and locate the root cause. Clunking is typically caused by clearance issues, may it be bearing, seating surfaces, whatever, it doesn't matter, it is the movement then stop of movement that you hear.
You said you removed the sway bars and retorqued the end links, does this mean you have completely disconnected your sway bars and still have clunking? If not, inspect this component again.
Which arms are you using? Bearing type or bushing type? Perhaps an arm is worn?

More importantly, WHEN is it clunking? Driveways? Rough roads? Suspension compression? This is the hard thing about the internet... hard to hear or feel what you are observing.

And of course, last stupid question... are the wheels torqued and mounted properly? I've seen this too...

Hi. The sound of metal hitting against metal generally comes when im going through small bumps or on low speed. Also we removed the sway bars totally and went onto the road to test it. The sound is still there. And, yes. the wheels are mounted professional using a mounting and balancing machine and torqued according to factory specs. Also, I'm using a bushing type arm and the bushing has been replaced with a whiteline bushing.

Couple of longshots, but did you do anything with the rear diff? Maybe something there is loose and it's moving around? Also check that the exhaust isn't hitting anything. I had a banging noise I could NOT find. Turned out the exhaust was hitting the drive shaft coupling. I could never see anything because it was on top of the exhaust. Wasn't until I changed exhaust hangers that it went away.

Nope. Never did anything to the differential except changing differential oil which was done by professionals.
Also im using a stock genome exhaust. never had a sound problem with it

so you say you had a clunk already? and now the CLUNK is still there. seems like something else is wrong and it is not your KW bros. you should look more into this is the problem was already there.

we tried so many top hats to test it.. cusco ones, oem sti ones, group n all of them were giving out this bull**** noise. i can say accurately that i have spent more time on this piece of garbage over other coilovers that i've owned before. even taiwan made coilovers didnt give me this kinda bull**** clunk. im done with this..

thats good. throw them away and once you spend more money to buy new coilovers you will still have the same CLUNK since it's always BEEN THERE

Sounds like its not the kw's causing your clunk it could even be something simple as your trunk lid...etc. maybe have somebody drive your car while u r in the trunk to source exactly where the clunking is coming from

Just do a google search on KW clunk. Lots and lots of instances of clunking. You're not alone.

I don't know a lot about Subaru suspensions but my brother put V3's on his GTO and he had some clunking issues as well. I know that the suspension setups are probably entirely different, but one of the gurus he talked to about it suggested that maybe the swaybar endlinks were to blame. Said that adjustable end links would help because the sway was being put in a bind with the lower ride. Might be way off here, just trying to throw an idea out there.

Sorry but I forgot to mention that the clunk was on OEM struts due to insufficient grease had nothing to do with anything. And the clunking on the stock struts went away after greasing them.

So yeah kw is being a bitch

the clunk is probably from the shock not being seated properly on the top hat. 02-03 and 04-07 tops and struts are a little different. There's a little washer that either needs to be on there or not depending on the year.

Reviving an old thread to share my experience. I had a similar clunk on my KWs, but it came from the right front. Small clunk or knocking sound over small bumps at low speeds. It was the top nut on shock shaft. Briefly zapped it with an impact wrench while they were mounted on the car. Took care of the noise. I'm pleasantly surprised with how quiet my KW V3s are considering the switch to camber plates up front and Group N mounts in the rear.

Did the OP get his clunk sorted out?

I'm having a similar problem with some Fortune coilovers in the rear. Used to clunk on the right rear until I asked them about the tophat orientation looking wrong and they agreed they had the left and right mixed on assembly. Swapped left and right by switching the bottom clevis, and now the noise is on the left. So I know it's either their damper or tophat. Preload was checked and double checked. I suspect the tophats and was going to swap in some factory ones to see if it vanishes. But it sounds like the OP tried this with unfavorable results.

I mixed nothing. They assembled them wrong. I installed with the clevis's on the correct side. I looked at the strut tops and they were offset for camber/caster, but non-adjustable. But the had the caster being removed. (Caster really doesnt matter in the rear.) I saw this on preinstall. Questioned it. Figured they are smarter than me, and had a previous email from them stating that their coilovers are ready to go, just set height. So I put them in and sent a email asking if it was wrong. After several back and forths, and pictures, they admitted to assembling them wrong. So I swapped left and right.
So the noise went with the side to side change meaning the problem 100% lies with their product, be it a defect or whatever.

Then you have other suspension related problems. More than likely your top hats are probably shot and you need to buy more but I am no mechanic.
