That's odd. I had the impression that they didn't want to hire anyone too overqualified because of the fear the person would want to jump ship ASAP. I know a colleague of mine had that problem (of being overqualified). He really wanted out but it took him some time before another agency saw that he wasn't a "jumper".

that used to be the case but it seems that because jobs are sp scarce, employers have their pick of the litter, and they set the terms...

my middle daughter and her BF both work in bankruptcy. Sorry to say, biz is booming.

Curious thing is, they are always needing to hire people because they avoid folks with much banking/financial institute experience (especially where my daughter works - trustee) due to the whole "why is someone from Chase handling my case when Chase made me go bankrupt!" issue.

CN: get a job handling bankruptcies. Try encore/ascension capital grp. etc.

The year before I was supposed to start working at a private wealth management firm in CT. They were going to have me start the same week Lehman collapsed. Naturally, they had a lot of assets tied to Lehman, and consequently, they went under. Just prior to that I was supposed to start work in Dubai at a start up when Dubai took a dump.

I'm so hungry to work, and I'm in my prime years and I feel like I'm stuck.

**Edit**Oh, I forgot to add, I work at a start up right now, but none of us are paid yet (even the CEO who's my age)

It's leading me more and more towards starting my own thing... I wonder if it that's my calling...

After a few crappy jobs and no sign of decent employment within a 100 mile drive, starting my own thing was exactly what I did. I'm still waiting to make decent money, but I can surf OT in my undies all day if I want. Thats what every 33 year old is looking for right?

I graduated from college just under a month ago. I'm a Communications major so I was almost forced decided to go into sales. There are a TON of openings for entry level sales positions in the Seattle area. I've been submitting >15 resumes a week and by simply stopping by the places I emailed my resumes to I have been able to have a least 4 or 5 interviews a week. I'm really hoping I'll have something by the end of next week.

I feel like following up on my resumes in person has been one of the biggest things with getting interviews for me. That way it doesn't just fall into a pile on the hiring manager's desk.

My daughter works for/with the 3rd party trustee lawyers/w'ever that handle accounts after the judge OKs the bankruptcy.

basically, they track financial accounts. making sure monies go where they should.

My daughter came from a health insurance bkgrnd. Her BF has a masters in art (yeah, I know)

One word for that; Taleo. More and more employers are using this POS software to handle online applications. Its almost impossible to use to find candidates.

Stupid Taleo POS.

If you don't have someone to send your resume to directly, the chances are it gets lost in the system and never crosses the hiring managers desk.

also, going through an agency can be good. A lot of comapnies just don't have time/personnel to do as good background checks etc. But if you get placed someplace that likes your work, sometimes you get an offer.

Keep your head up, tomorrow will be a brighter day.

Have you tried your luck with Craigslist? I went from being a bum to finding my last 3 jobs on there. Only making 45k...but its better than 0 or min wage. I find the interview and screening process a lot easier than say employers on monster.

I would have expected higher pay to be a gigelo.

Practice your evil skills and perhaps things will look up. An evil laugh in the interview, talking about crushing lowly peasants like ants, etc... It will all work in your favour in the end. Try also getting a mustache that looks a bit like this:

Yeah it sucks. 10 years ago, this same job was going for $80K - $120K.

I've been submitting 2-5 resumes a day since November in Indiana. Had 3 in person and 2 phone interview since then. Awaiting results on in person and phone interview now. Jobs are tough to find. My two "favorite" stories:

a. Was not hired at one place after 2nd interview. Reason? I was told I told someone during the interview process, "I'm not qualified for this position". Position was maintenance manager for like 12 dudes. I did that in the Navy for 300.

b. United lost my luggage, so I went to an interview in a Walmart outfit bought at 5am the morning of the interview. I looked like the referee at every tennis match you've ever seen. That job fell through too.

I've been laid off twice in the last six months and am currently working a retail job to make ends meet (barely). I'm an accountant with a degree from a damn good business school and I worked a great internship while in school that didn't pan out into something permanent because business fell off for the firm.

Keep your head up, man. You're gonna be alright, and you're definitely not alone.

25? Try 200 since January. I have been out of work for 14 months, and I am finally negotiating an offer. I have to move to Indianapolis though. At least it is kind of close to Chicago.
