Drew, a winter package is a undercoat that protects the body!

From what I've been told, those are mostly snake oil, but that's referring to dealership versions. I know there was a guy at the auto skills center putting plain old grease on exposed rustable parts (control arms and such) to keep them non-rusty.

Well yes, you can do that but I meant a factory winter package like my jeep. It came to Germany with a undercoat spray.

BTW: What are the winters like over there?
Schweinfurt is closing down in the next couple years. Next summer there should only be 2 units here. Mine is not one but I'll pcs anyways. Not too sure on 15th E. I was referring to a deployment but like I said in the pm, didn't realize you're currently on one and will have dwell time.

*****, not here in Schweinfurt!! We have a nuke plant in town. It keeps the air ALOT cooler than Graf/Vilseck. Where we might have slush/1-3'' of snow, Graf has about 12'', not even joking. It snowed 3 seperate days this past winter. Snow might be on the ground for a couple days then melt. Snow another day of a different week etc.

No need man. Just all-seasons or snow tires. I ran my summers since it didn't really snow. When there was snow on the ground, it was interesting

Why jump back into another car payment? I'm fighting that with the wife. I have 3 more payments of $450/mo on my truck after 5 years. She wants a new 1 series bmw...shieeett...she's out of her damn mind.

Amsterdam was fun, seeing all the hookers in the windows, a live porn show, a wax museum, the Dungeon, Anne Franks house and a Heineken brewery (well, went there, but close literally 1min before we stepped in ) I got some Absinth Gonna have to try it maybe next weekend after the races

If only I had close up pics of my front bumper. The paint looks like ground beef and the bumper looks like I participate in rock batting practice. I'm currently looking for a front bumper in the classifieds. I have an extra set of wheels w/o tires on them. I'll use those for the winter (if I bring the car). As far as not having a car payment, that will be the leading factor of me keeping the car. I'm just scared to ship it since I've never done anything like this before.

How will a 400whp subie fair in Germany? I feel like I'm gonna get my ass kicked

I have 436whp and it holds its own I haven't been beat yet. I've whooped a couple v8's and all the rice burners around here. There are a couple gto's here that I would like to toy with. There is a twin turbo'd 98ish mustang cobra...sounds NASTY!! I wouldn't even try against him lol Well, for a good grin I probly would.

Both. Alot of Germans have rice burners...body kits with led lights all over, some ugly wheels and wings etc. Some Germans do it right and have nice cars. All the Germans at DC had nice cars.

Around Schweinfurt, there are a couple rhd supra's but other than that, a bunch of golfs, jetta, 10+yr old Audi's and a ton of BMW's (like 90'-2006). If they're newer than that, they're probly not modded.

lol I bought bf3 and want to sell it!! There's a delay from the sticks to screen unlike mw3. I messed with the sensitivity so maybe that's why but it's too frustrating to even want to play.

I hear video games is not a good method to use for driving on the ring b/c its supposedly not even close to the real thing.

What do you think? Is it true?

We only use it to memorize the course not the actual driving abilities of our cars. It's very accurate when it comes to knowing turns and what not. The way I drive on the track and on the game are very different.

Yup same as freak said. It's good to memorize just the upcoming turns. All the other stuff like rpm and entry speed and braking points are a joke on the game. It's help me learn a few of the turns that are easily the hardest to recover mid turn, so I know 1 turn prior to calm down

I've played GT5 driving on the ring hundreds of times. I feel like my first time out there, when I get the chance someday after I get there (hopefully they don't deploy me; currently on 3rd tour don't need a fourth anytime soon), will be as if I never seen or heard of the place. I'm going to take that as a good thing and soak up all the advise and learn as much as I can.

QFT, GT5 is a horrible "simulator." I own both systems and to me Forza 4 is the closer comparison. GT5 has waaaay too much understeer on every vehicle. I find Forza lets the back end break loose in a much more progressive manner and much more similar to reality. Both games are negligable on accuracy of the track, however Forza's start line is closer to the real one. One thing they both don't show you is the speed limited areas, there are two, the main straight is speed limited close after the end bridge(the one with AUDI plastered all over it, but it is just a bare metal gantry in Forza) at 130kph graduating down till the exit and there is a second entrance near I think its Adenau that is likewise limited. I say its limited, but I have been overtaken at way over the limit so I feel like no one cares about that one.

Another thing to keep in mind, if it is a busy day there will be tons of spectators all along the course which tempts people to show their ass, the main area being Brennchen. Its a good idea to keep your head on a swivel around these portions of the track as they are common places for localized cautions. Also, be mindful of bikes, and much slower traffic. Last time I was out there we had rediculous Porsche GT3/2 RS, and a few high power GT-Rs as well as people lapping in Priuses (priusii?) Don't be like that guy in the CR-V...come back with your scoob and more importantly you in one piece. They don't call her the Green Hell for nothing...

J/k. I know what u mean on realistic handling. Which is why i dont concern about that portion of the game. It would prob be cool if sony put out a tourist version of the race. Where u drive just like u would going there with bikes and slow traffic and the random rich guy in his gt3 rs.

I had a close call there last summer with a ambulance pull in on the track and I slowed down and the gt3rs did not and almost brought a porsche home in my trunk.

9 out of 10 bikes will be in your way holding you back and slowing u down mid turn. I rarely got passed by bikes. Its always a car that cost 4 times my wrx or a track only car

So Friday, I have me, 3 evo's, a bmw 135i, 08wrx and a golf gti coming with me from Schweinfurt to the shop then Street Culture afterwards. The rex is pretty slow but the rest of us are straight Even the golf makes 416whp. Hope to see everyone there.

Are there instructors available to ride with you on the ring or is it pretty much sink or swim, i.e. go out there on your own for your first time?

I swam just fine. I know my car just didn't know the track. They have classes you can take but it can get pricey. Check out the website.
