The protuner saving their map in Pro format is their choice and many do it to protect their IP or to prevent their customers from modifying the map. It is a feature that many requested awhile back and we added it to the Pro software. Some shops will save a map in Race format for you so you can open it in AccessTUNER Race, but not every shop will and whether they do so or not is entirely up to them. You may want to check with your tuner and see if they will.

i dont mind not being able to touch my map, i respect that its his property and wouldnt touch it anyways, i would like to be able to change everything else via computer though...the buttons on the access port are kind of a pain to navigate through and make it take longer to get through when i already have to have my laptop out cause the AP itself cant handle logging more than like 4 fields with out crashing.

you might want to consider having your AP serviced then. If you cant log the default log list, your AP has a problem.

That is not normal behavior and sounds like there's an issue with the AccessPORT. I would give our tech support staff a call: 866.922.3059

The LC/FFS thresholds in the software require a reflash so they are not optimal for quick changes when you are trying to dial it in. You would make those changes for more permanent starting points to the LC/FFS thresholds. If that is what you are looking for, I would contact your tuner and see if they are willing to set up your map for different LC/FFS thresholds.

Cobb,

I love my Stage 2 OTS Map, it has worked flawlessly for 5 years and over 50K miles. About 3 yrs ago I installed a CAI, APS 65mm but never tuned for it, is there a step by step guide on how to tune for it via AccessTuner Race?

By step by step I mean very specific geared for newbies.

You'll need a wideband and adjust the maf scaling.

^I am looking for Cobb's input, there is info out there specific for beginnner Cobb Access Tuner Race users wanting to learn how to scale MAF as a first exposure to tuning.. I hope.

Romraider is too broad and intimidating. Also, this is the point of this thread, to point us in the right direction, to help us get the most out of the AP and AP Tuner Race. Cobb has been very helpful so far, so I hope people like you will not steer this thread in the wrong direction, go back to your Open Source forum.

How is pointing you towards a great place to read up on tuning your car, steering the thread in the wrong direction?

You clearly don't understand that the values you input and change in the AccessTunerRace software is basically the same as what you see in Romraider and ECUflash.

Try not to be blinded by the broad support.

I am not bashing Cobb's product in any way. I owned a V2 accessport for my car. I got alot of use out of it. Everything I learned about using the AccesstunerRace software, was aquired over in the Romraider forums. Don't think for a second that the open source tuners can't help you. I view peoples accessport datalogs on a regular basis, and can make suggestions on what changes to make... BECAUSE I took the time to read ALL of the material that I could get my hands on.

Never did I tell you in this thread that you should sell your accessport. Not even once.

A similar question was asked in another thread, so I'll repeat what I wrote there:

We have a tuning guide and worksheet that covers some of the basics:
http://forums.cobbtuning.com/forums/...et-for-Subarus

You can also find descriptions for every table in the help menu (F1) of the AccessTUNER software.

We offer our AccessTUNER Race software for free to version 2 AccessPORT customers (see link below to request the software), but most of our customers prefer using the OTS maps or getting a custom tune from a professional. As such, you may not find a lot of fellow tuners specifically using the AccessTUNER software in the forums. But, the software is still quite powerful, including all the tables and monitors of the Pro version (and features like real-time tuning and 2.5L speed density) just limited to your single vehicle. Factory engine control unit (ECU) logic for Subarus is going to be the same regardless of the software you are using, so look for info from multiple sources. The biggest Subaru self-tuning resource is going to be the RomRaider forums, which covers open source tuning software. There are even some AccessTUNER software users on there. The naming conventions for tables might be different in the open source software compared to ours, but the tuning strategy is going to be the same. Digest as much as you can before attempting to tune and when you do start to tune, make small changes at time while doing a lot of data logging.

Just wanted to say how awesome this post is. Cobb Tuning is a COMMERCIAL company that sells a PAID FOR CLOSED SOURCE product - yet they are willing to work with customers and teach them how to use their products and even release FREE software to tune the cars ourselves, and even point us to their competitor to learn the finer details of tuning.

Cobb, you have a customer for life

The great thing about Cobb's product is that they offer a readily available, easy to use product for a very wide range of products. While my car is probably one of the easiest to do any kind of work with (OS) I was very happy with the accessport that I used on my friends 05 WRX. It was not easily compatible with my open source cable. The biggest advantage to tuning my friends car with the accessport is that he doesnt own a laptop, and doesnt need to come to me any time he wants the car checked out. He can just e-mail me a datalog (just like when people post them here) and I can make changes and send them along.

If the accessport works for you, and is the easiest solution... GREAT! Just be aware that there are other places you can look for information (aside from Cobb's website/forum) where you can learn to improve your results WITH your Cobb product.

You don't see used HASP keys for Accesstuner Pro pop up very often.

You can contact our director of Protuning, Tim Bailey ([email protected]), to tell him about your shop and discuss different options.

Just gonna put this here.

I wish I knew this was available sooner. I will still work with my tuner, but I want to see if I can start with the ots stage 1 map and play around with it a bit.

Not to worry, I am not gonna flash anything for a while. I don't know what is supplied, but if there was a "virtual" simulation of the new map, it would be great.

Hardware Engineers will create a design in schematic form. That schematic form is made into layout and that layout is extracted and simulated. But, before that schematic gets turned into layout, there is a schematic simulation that says if this will work or not.

I guess I will find out this weekend, but does anyone know if there is a "simulation" tool included in the software. This would save a lot of R&D time (flashing/logging/adjustments).

Oh yeah, last but not least...thank you so much, Cobb Tuning. You have made my dream a reality. I can not wait to get started. I would have gladly paid $1000 for this software, but please don't tell that to your boss.

If this allows me the opportunity to one day do my own dyno tuning, I am in heaven.

Default Uninstalling

I know this is not about accesstuner software but I have an accessport that I knew absolutely nothing about uninstalling. The car it was installed on got totaled but I was able to remove a few parts including the accessport with the mount and the obd2 cable but the accessport is still installed on that car an 06 Subaru Legacy GT, now I have an 05 Subaru Legacy GT and I want to get the accessport uninstalled from the 06 Legacy GT.

Cobb can reset the accessport for use on another car, but they charge about $475 to do that. If your car was totaled and you have proof like pictures and insurance papers I would email them and ask if they have a special rate since the old car is no longer on the road.

Negative its 300 i had it done to an accessport that was married to a Mazda i got for cheap. This was 2 years ago though so prices could have changed.

They raised their prices a year or 2 ago, it's now 70% the purchase cost to re-license it. At the list price of $675 it comes out to $472. I have an married AP and asked about getting it reset.

It does. And accesstuner race use to be a free download, now you have to pay another $150 or something to get it.
