Default Emission station can't read ecu

I have a 04 2.0l with a custom tune. I bought this car with the custom tunes already on it with a V2 cobb. The car runs great. Problem I'm having is when I go to have the emissions testing they say they cannot read the ecu. So they have to do a manual sniffer test on the car. I prefer to use the self serve Kiosks that I can do any time of the day or night. I was able to email the original tuner and he said that he had it set to rediness for the emissions to read. I'm assuming his tune is locked. I can use a scanner to read the ecu but the testing station cannot access the ecu. If I unmarry the cobb things my not run very well and throw codes. Any help would be great.

i had a similar incident a few months ago at my inspection station

they were not sure what they were saying and i sure didn't understand, but they said something like 'my ecu wouldn't come back'
i asked what that meant and they said something like 'the ecu doesn't have the same vin as the car'
they told me i had to go to a different station for a 'waiver'
second station said no problem with ecu, but they did a closer inspection on the car .... and asked if it was 'modified'
i said no ....... that it has passed previously exactly as it is with no issues
he looked at me like he was going to laugh when i said the first part of that
then paused for a second when i said the latter part and said nothing

it felt like he reluctantly let me pass and i sure noted the experience in my memory
i kind of wondered if maybe 'things' were changing as far as inspection and AP tunes

Yes I have had other times that I had to use differant stations to get a modified vehichle to pass. The problem with a few stations is they looked to close for non compliance. I think the imission testing is a joke in my state. Some counties have it and some don't. I had a built jeep with a big V8 without cats. It passed the sniffer test many times then one year failed for no cats. So I had to put cats on for the test then take them off. Bad part is was dual exhaust.

But for the wrx I think maybe the tune is locking out the emisiionn station from reading the rediness. So is there a way to force rediness or have the ecu to be read by the emission station. Don't really want to unmarry the cob then re-install just for the station. I'm trying to use the self serve kiosk so no person at the station has to look at the car. This self serve kiosk works with other cars I have even a highly modded GTI.

Same problem last year for me. Here is the solution that I found.
- Contact Cobb through their website http://www.cobbtuning.com/products/s...cesstuner-race
- you will have to fill out some info on the website
- Cobb sends you a link to download
- there is a setting for "forced readiness", click that
- save file as the name of your tune plus something you will remember
- flash your ecu after you drive to the station
- station runs test
- flash back to your map when you pick up the car

Hopefully it works for you. It did for me.

Thanks for that info I'll try cobb and see what they can do. But won't know for awhile if it works. I have the car up on the rack doing some clean up and service. Plus it's put away for the winter darn salt is hard on them.

So question I wondering about is if the emission station can't read the ECU does this mean they can't see the rediness status? Since that is all they want to see. Plus of course if you have a check engine light on which I do not.

Is there another way to see if the ECU can be read by the Emission station without using their reader?

So if I change my ecu from a junk yard ecu, it won't have the right Vin #?
My ecu is not memorizing all the monitors after they all read OK running it through the drive cycle. when I turn off the ignition it returns to 4 OK and 3 Incomplete. I am going to replace the ecu.

I did get the accesstuner race. But it will not use my tunes. So what tune do I use? Just download one of the standard Cobb tunes then force the readiness?. If you do this is there a drive time needed before they can read it?

Will a custom tune one from the pro version make the ecu not readable for the emission station?

I did get the ATR and downloaded a standard tune from Cobb as close to my cars upgrades. I tweaked a few of the settings in ATR flashed the ECU and went to the after hours e-check self serve. It was able to read the ECU and it passed. Went home and flashed my normal tune back on. The Cobb tune ran somewhat good till around 4000 rpm then fell on it's face after that. So all is good I can go get my new stickers for another two years.

Had the same issue. My tuner needed to turn my ready monitors on. After that i never had a problem
