This sounds almost exactly like my build! Did you do the work yourself?

I am in a similar position as you are. I picked up an 02 with an ej257 swap.
I called cobb, they said that I would need to to get an AP distinct to the 02 since that is the ECU I have. With that being said, they mentioned that no OTS maps are safe given that the engine and ECU are not synced. I am NO EXPERT at tuning and have little to no experience with tuning so I am just passing on the info I got from COBB. I am following this thread to see if someone with more experience can shed some light on this because I would rather for the AP OTS tune then drop $600 on a tune in california and keep shelling out $$$ everytime I change a modification. |

I have been searching under every rock, in every crack, and around every corner of the internet for a basemap to resolve this problem.
Alas. None. At least no unlocked Cobb AP friendly OTS maps. Currently trying to transfer pertinant OpenSource ROM tables from 05 STI to OTS WRX map. Then make trims and adjustments from there. Youd think, with years and years of this swap there would be at least some crude map available. |

How are you even running a motor w/32-bit cam/crank sensors on the 16-bit '04 WRX ECU? Cable throttle and 2.0 head swap?
If so... that'd be why there are no base maps - you've got a frankenstein of a motor. You need to get this tuned - there are multipliers in play that differ between the 16- and 32-bit ROMs, and direct table copy/paste will be more trouble than just getting it tuned. |

....
Ej257 Longblock w/ 02 Intake manifold, relocated cam pos sensor and avcs delete is a pretty common swap... |

It's been done many times if you search, but most people won't give up the base starting map. You would almost be better off staying with romraider to turn whatever you need off, hopefully you got cam angle sensor and bracket on driver side... And AVCS will be in high lift it will sound very deep and throaty... I had almost the same thing on my 03WRX with a EJ255 it is very tedious and time-consuming with logging and changes...

When you say give up the base starting map, you mean they wont share it?
If they arent selling it why bother hoarding? |

It's just what some people choose to do because they put in the work... I think I have like 10-15 revisions from when I had my WRX somewhere on my computer.

Seems a strange decision to me.
If it is sitting idle not benefiting you as a secret why not share? |

It's called intellectual property, assuming he was the one that created the maps. Time is money, friend.

Thats exactly my point.
I am not advocating that if he was making "Money" off of that tune that he share it for free. I am saying, if he wrote the maps, he in no way intends to sell it, why not go the "knowledge is power" route? Lets face it, 3/4 of the people that use these boards, use it for the information shared by those that shared the data instead of allowing it to sit and rot. If hes a tuner, making money off the basemap then by all means, make your money. If the data is sitting there doing nothing while others could benefit, I assume that even if you were to struggle to upload the file it would still only take you 5 mins to upload. Take it from a guy running a company based on "intellectual property". I understand the value of information. However, I am a firm believer in sharing knowledge that would otherwise be wasted. |
