270 whp with ECUTEK and TBE, now how do I get to 300 whp?
Hi everyone,
I recently had my car tuned by Bill @ I-Speed. The car runs great, very smoothly. However, both Bill and I were surprised to see that my 04 STi was only making about 270 wheel HP with my TBE (BPM catted downpipe, BPM midpipe, and APS axleback). I was wondering if you guys could offer some suggestions on the easiest way to make it to 300 whp, which is my power target, at least for the immediate future. Bill has suggested an APS front mount as they have had an STi with ECUTEK, TBE, and an APS FMIC make 310 whp. What do you guys think about going with the front mount? I am concerned about the increased lag. I appreciate any advice or help you may be able offer me. Thanks! Ernie BTW, I have done a search on this topic and have found several threads but was hoping to get everyone's most current opinion

Hey Ernie,
I think Bill may be right about the FMIC, up here in Oregon we have been able to get 300whp on our stage 2 STi's but we have good 92 octane, since you are limited by your gasoline, the FMIC may be needed to cool your intake charge off enough to make it possible on 91, or at least make it safe to do on 91. good luck, i am sure i-speed will get the numbers you want Ben |

thats right sounds a bit low for the mods you have... you can port the vf-39 - add a fmic that should get u 300

It's the gas, mostly, but you didn't specify what type of dyno or give base run figures so it's harder to get an idea of where you stand.

thank you for all of your helpful advice guys. to answer some of the questions which were asked:
it was a dynapack dyno and I wasnt able to get a baseline run because I already had an "off-the-shelf" map from another tuner. ernie |

Get a FMIC. i picked up about 15 Whp on my sti, no lag problems. i have TurboSX FMIC, Pdxtuning is runing Special on them call them at 971-221-7825 for the best price.
mods: Gpmoto TBE, GPmoto equal lenth header, Gpmoto short ram itake, Utec, TurboSx FMIC. I made 285 whp and 288 ft-lbs on 92 pump gas (PdxTuning tuned my car), with out the FMIC. I put the FMIC and now i make 300 whp 304 ft-lbs (Self tuned on street, 3 pulls at dyno for new baseline) if you have any more questions you can PM or call my cell 503 347 7689 -Justin Last edited by StiScoobySnacks; 08-12-2005 at 11:06 AM. |

if you dont have the ECUTEK license I believe it will cost you somewhere around the same. otherwise tuning is $250 an hour.

I have heard that FMIC with the VF39 was pointless, but from what I have seen in this thread and on i-speed's website it seems like they can help you make a lot of power.

removing the cat might gain you another 10whp and then throw on a fmic, headers and you might be real close. Next step of course add an upgraded turbo and your all set! oh, and maybe another psi of boost!

Dont waste your time with little things. 300whp is easily atainable with a HKS GTRS upgrade. Simple turbo swap out and remap will make 300 easily and very drivable. Only other change will be the fuel pump. U need a Walbro 255.

I hit just over the 300 mark with TBE, intake, and FMIC as Quack stated, however, my buddy with similar mods and a TMIC put down close to the same on the same dyno. I used COBB's ST and he used UTEC. It can be done with your TMIC.

Consider the SMC kit. According to many meth injection and your stock TMIC will get you more power than a FMIC.

are so close to static with tbe..>92%... most we got was high 28xwhp & 3xxft-lbs. with stock turbo & injectors. the shop has dynapack awd chassis dyno. but the few STi that upgraded injectors had idc's in the low 6x to mid 6x%. and we did get a 30xwhp & 31xft-lbs on one and 29xwhp & 29xft-lbs on a different car. the shop is at sea level or +20 and temps have been around high 90's to low 100's when tuning. but everyones suggestion are also valid. water injection would be an alternative to larger injectors. |
