Question Frnt. Strut tower bar hitting hood scoop backing plate

i installed a JC Sports frnt. strut tower bar last night, and noticed it hits the backing plate to the hood scoop. does anyone have any recommendations on what to do? the bar is hitting the two rain downlette things i believe, so i was thinking about cutting them out of the backing plate or something. but for today i have taken off the backing plate, but i don't think this is the answer since rain will enter. please help.

u have an RS i am assuming?

i have a Legacy GT and the strut bar doesn't hit up against anything... hmmm.... our hood scoops are waaay different... yeah, i have hood scoop envy!!

anyway, u may have to 'cut' something down to make it fit correctly... just like you were talking about... i am sure someone has had to do this...

RS guys??? help this guy out!!!

yeah it is a MY00 RS coupe. i believe it is just hitting the two "drain downlettes" (i guess that is what you could call them) on the backing plate. so if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated, cutting them out seems drastic to me, but if it is the only way it has gotta be done. thanx

it goes over the air-box (plenum) i guess it is called. if you have an intercooler i do not think you could use the JC bar, you would have to go with the STI or something else that goes around it.

Trim the little metal tabs off with some tin snips...or you need to bend them up.

my STi bar also hit the hood scoop plug. at first i just banged that exact bluge flat, and it did not hit anymore.

i then just took the backing plate out, so you can see the bar even better.

the strut bar fit just fine in the GT...?? I didn't have to adjust a single thing...

and FWIW, you cannot use the JC strut brace w/an intercooler, it will not fit...

SCC in one of the earlier installments of Project Subaru did this. You have to remove the backing plate in order for the JC bar to fit. Or you could hack up the backing plate until it fits...but I'd rather keep it all stock and just remove it. Looks cooler too!

Thumbs down

I had to trim the tabs off my plate to get the bar to fit too!

But I do love the bar!
