Just test drove JDM 2.0L new Legacy GT wagon and WRX STi in Tokyo, impression......
Just got back from Tokyo a few hours ago, I went there to attent the Tokyo Auto Salon 2004.
I went to a Subaru dealer 2 days ago, the salesman let me test drove the above mention 2 cars. Impression: WRX STi (regular car, not the spec C, limited....etc) .............steering wheel require more effort to turn, obviously less power assist. Brake pedal feel firmer, clutch padel is a litter heavier. Power feel quite a bit weaker then the USDM 2.5L turbo car. To put it without offending anyone, the USDM car feel strong, the JDM car doesn't feel strong, kinda like a Acura TL with 270hp, it is a decently quick car, but not exciting like the USDM car. The seats are not as much different as most people say they are, yes they definitely have more support, but just slightly more, in my opinion is not worth the money to change them...... Legacy GT wagon (2.0L turbo, 280 ps) It got quite a bit more low end torque then the JDM WRX STi, it is obvious it is tuned for low end power, it actually feels like it is quicker then the WRX just because the low end power is better. The low end power is ALMOST as good as the USDM 2.5L turbo. Power drop off at high rpm considerably. Very nice interior and very stylish exterior. Very comfy suspension, yet still firm. When I was in Tokyo, I was really wondering which one I rather drive (Legacy turbo or the WRX STi). But after I went out for a drive in the USDM WRX STi when I got home a few hours ago, the answer is pretty clear, the Impreza will always be sportier then the Legacy, no matter what mods you put on it........ NOTE: It is pretty amazing the salesman enthusiastically asked me if I want to test drive any cars after I made it very clear that I am an American tourist only staying in Tokyo for 1 week. There is ZERO chance that I would buy a car from him. He was still very happy to let me drive both of their fastest cars in their line up. Japan definitely have very different culture then the U.S. ADDICT Last edited by JDM addict; 01-14-2004 at 01:40 AM. |
