The list of bushings, water pumps, oil stand gaskets, window regs and so on. I can make a nice long list if you like. Have you used a parking brake on a 7 without it breaking? I know the truth hurts.. its expensive to be a BMW owner.

Where do you even start? Regular M5, hell no. M5 with an upgraded clutch? Oh yes. The only one to have |

Mine can beat an M3. But then, for what I've spent on the car, I could have just bought an M3.

I honestly think he is just basing the clutch comment on what jeremy clarkson said about the car and how the drivetrain was always lacking in the M5 up until recently.
Apparently quoting famous car nuts makes you sound smart. Getting back to M models, the Z3M would be my choice. but maybe because I helped my dad set his up and with only 300 WHP, and mild brake and suspension mods the car is a dream to drive. Kind of my goal to build the WRX up to the same level so we can go to a track day together and see who could pull the fastest lap. |

The older m5's with the 6spd will destroy a clutch with all the torque they put down.
Maybe since I'm older I enjoy a m5 over a m3. But m3s are slow as **** when you have a 550whp Subaru. Still doesn't get over the fact that BMWs leak oil from everywhere. And whats up with the personal attacks? You obviously own a BMW. Don't get your pan gasket all bent out of shape. |

I prefer the Z4M to the Z3M, but perhaps that's because or Z3M didn't have any upgrades to the suspension or any chassis stiffening. I love that S54 engine, though. It's a shame it's so heavy.

His is a 2000 so its one year prior to the s54. Before 2001 they came with a s52 so we supercharged it.

Ah, yeah. Ours was the 2002. It suffered the S54 engine failure that mostly plagued the M3s. Thankfully, BMW was being relatively reasonable about those failures by the time ours went, so the just... fixed it.

Stage 2 WRX beat a 2002 M3 bone stock. From a roll at 60, 20, and from a launch.

That's on like a 70-130ish pull. Lower speeds it's much closer, but as speed rises, it walks away pretty noticeably. |

I'd say they were being quite reasonable. |

Don't see Subaru replacing all the bearings of every 2009 WRX sold...regardless of failure.
Then again, they didn't pay $50k for their cars, nor are the bearing changes nearly as quick and easy. |

BMW sucks. Subaru is the best car manufacturer on Earth.
Unless you put a clutch in the M5, then WATCH OUT! |

Short version: Initially BMW were extremely unreasonable about the failures. By the end, yes, they were reasonable. |

The "recall" or service bulletin did not apply to the Zs, but you still got the extended engihe warranty if anything happened, after they discovered the root cause of the problem (March 2003 iirc). As for them initial being extremely unreasonable...hmm...not sure there's a carmaker out there who isn't going to take the time to find teh root cause of the problem, after they had seen a fairly regular occurence of failures. I'm sure it was tough to have an early failure, must have been frustrating. Last edited by SoapBox; 01-31-2013 at 01:58 PM. |

My 97 impreza hatch with full 02 Wrx swap beat an m3 from 60 roll on the highway, but I have a weight advantage on my side.
