What does the exhaust sound like? Is this strictly the muffler section, or the midpipe and muffler section?

I've never been real keen on the big 4" tips, but I like the way it fills out the stock cutout in the 2.5GT rear bumper ground effects. The tip isn't too low, so it fits right in there nicely. Hmmmm....

heh...the sound of these mufflers are sweet!!! I have a brullen 3" dual tip muffler w/ custom 2.25" midpipe (no resonator). The other guys who have heard it (markus, and etown folk) say it sounds really close to the stromung on Warren's RS in Cowtown.
BTW, i have the "soft" configuration, and it's not soft...probably because no resonator.

Well, when you get your system, you can specifically request for either loud/authoritative sounding (ie no resonator) or softer/mellower (ie w/ resonator).

This is the FULL CAT-BACK system for the prices listed.

As well, the exhaust tips are resonated (other than the DTM).

At cruising speed, the exhaust is unobtrusive (so it shouldn't have a "boomy" echoing sound like the Stromung). Quality is top-notch, on the likes of Remus and Otteniger. Systems will only be offered in Full Stainless Steel.

Advantages to stainless steel :
1) Lighter (vs stock)
2) Corrosion resistant
3) Lasts for a long long time!

These exhaust systems will compliment cars that have been lowered really well, providing more clearance between the ground and the lowest point vs. an Apex-i N1, 5 Zigen, or Blitz. So if you guys don't live in the "mirror" smooth roads of California, this would be a great exhaust system for those who are worried about ground clearance.

I can tell you guys for a fact that the 5 Zigen Fireball on a 2.5RS that has yet to be lowered is not really suitable for Canadian roads, having seen it first hand, the end of the 5 Zigen muffler on the cat-back system actually bangs on things really easily, thus creating a hole in the Stainless steel canister.

Bolt on rear sections will be availible at a later date, but considering the most bang for the buck, a full cat-back is only a little more than the cost of the Stainless Steel Stromung muffler!

I'd be interested in a dual tip system. I plan on going turbo but haven't got it yet. I'm thinking 2.5", but want to make sure that does not mean the tips are 2.5" each? and therefore the intermediate pipe is ~3.5"? I think that would be a little large. I was hoping for a 2.5" midpipe so the tips would actually be ~1.75" each? I think this would be a good compromise for both N/A and turbo, since I don't plan on using anything much over(if any) a T3. Thanks

mrbell - The mid-pipe section is all 2.50" Inner Diameter, the resonator has a 2.50" Inner Diameter, the inside core of the muffler is a 2.5" Diameter, the tips are 3" or 3.5" (that is the outter diameter of the tips, but the pipe coming out from the muffler attaching the tips to the muffler is all 2.50". The same applies for the other sizes, ie: 2.25" means 2.25" Inner diameter for everything, just the tips are different sizes, and same for the 3.0" system.

I hope that helps clairify things!

Question

i assume theres no time span or anything on these? im waiting to know what the price of my ticket is before i do anything with my money. oh, and maybe im spoiled and ignorant, but california roads are far from mirror smooth... far far, though again, i may just not be experienced. ive been to a few other states, doesnt seem any worse. and especially in highly populated orange county, they are in constant reconstruction of the roads, it provides for terrible temporary "roads."

There's no time span for these systems. But if you want one, it'd be best to either post here, or pm or email me. They will only be retailed through JC Sports and TRi Tuning later.

As for the Cali roads, most of them are better than the roads in areas of Canada... but then again, here in Calgary, we get snow etc, so there's alot of crap on the road during the winter. Not to mention hugh speed bumps!

Forgot to mention, these exhaust systems shouldn't drone like some of the Stromung set-ups @ highway speeds.

Also, if you like the STi's "quietness" there's an option for that.

McDade - actually, all the exhaust systems will be coming out of Canada. So no matter where you get it, shipping will be the same.

I was checking UPS doing a "hypothetical" package for the exhuast system and shipping worked out to be the following amounts via UPS standard ground service. Because of the NAFTA agreement, there are not duties etc.

If you live in NY shipping is ~ $37.00US
If you live in CT shipping is ~ $37.00US
If you live in AZ shipping is ~ $43.00US
If you live in WA shipping is ~ $43.00US

Those rates are based on the following :
- Shipping to a residence
- UPS Standard Ground Service
- Estimated weight of 50.00lbs
- Estimated dimensions of 60"x12"x12"
- Rounding up to the next highest dollar amount.

I think that the shipping rates maybe lower though, b/c I over estimated some of the things.

Will there be any fitment problems with a rear differential protector?? I.E. SOA or Primitive?

I've got one and my STi exhaust with 2.25" midpipe was an issue, will these cause problems?

Thanks - Jon

omahasubaru - most if not all exhausts have interferrance with the rear differential protector. There's a simple modifcation for the differential protector.. I believe it was a flange that was in the way right? Since this system doesn't use the stock flange locations, there might not be any intereferance with having a SOA or Primitive differential protector....

I'm going to see if I can get you guys some sound files... but it deinfately won't do the system justice with the low audio resolution from a microphone.

Just to be a smart@ss too: I've lived in California for six years, and I too am still waiting to see the 'mirror smooth roads of California' you so teasingly allude to!!

Those exhausts look interesting though... show me the dyno numbers!

Thanks for the reply.

I can drive to tri to pick it up is what I mean, but Im assuming they will be marking them up, to cover shipping to them?

work me up a total price for shipping to us NJ 07003, for the 2.25 mid w/dtm dual tip <--thats the one all the way at the bottom right? Is there any sound difference between the dual tip and the dtm style? Or is it just looks.

Ill see if I can afford it. hehe, *looks in empty wallet*
