Default MN members...here

It's been awhile.....seems most of us MN peeps are not actively posting....so I'll start a thread for us!!

What's everybody doing this time of year? I'm just sitting at home enjoying the warmth and trying to get school work done (although I don't really do homework). The weather has been so cold these past 1-2 weeks. No snow either! Maybe some light snow here and there but none at all. The grass are brown....some dead....hehE!

Right now, I have valve cover gaskets for my Mom's Legacy. So maybe my brothers, Dad, or I may be the one who's going to take the valve covers off and replace the gaskets. At first I thought that the gaskets should look like the head gaskes, I thought wrong. They look more like long rubber bands. Well, not as rubbery as rubber bands but they look like ruber bands. The way I see it, the replacement should be hard. Maybe trying to get the socket onto the bolt is the hard part.

So who knows where Todd's shop is at? I know it's somewhere in Roseville, but not exactly where. Must get internship.....hehe Are visitors allowed?

BTW, my car plans have changed, I may not get an Impreza for a first car, I maybe handed over my brother's MY92 Celica ST 5 speed for now until I can afford one later in time. I don't want to stack up more bills for my parents. Although they can get a loan that's enough for the STi......

[evil laugh]
muah ha hA HA
[/evil laugh]

Although I really like the STi, I don't want others to suffer......you got me right.

Minnesotians! Hollar please!!!

what is this shop you speak of in roseville? is it a subaru place? i wonder if they will adjust the height on my coilovers, there is something wrong with them(or me) and the seat rings arent moving at all, tein said it shoudlnt be that hard to adjust and i cant budge them with all my weight behind it or pushing with my legs.

former minnesota member posting from STL... Expect to see me and my car around sometime soon. 19 year old WRX driving scubaru enthusiast here. As a point of reference: my car has become not only dirtier, but also louder since I moved.

Best of luck with that. I have suggested a few times that people get together for a few beers. No one goes for it. Apathy wins the day, every time.

I mean, it's BEER for crying out loud!! What's not to like??

The only success I've had at getting together with local car people (some Subarus, other imports too) is through Minnesota Sport Compacts. Speaking of which, we're meeting at Fuddruckers near Louisiana and 394 on Saturday afternoon. Be there!

Evan (RacerRS) is 18 or 19 too; he is currently up at UMD and I havn't seen him post since he left.

I'd love to go out for a beer.. except I'm 19 and I still have not developed a taste for it

goodluck getting the meet togather

bjlee: no worries DDR will come oneday. Maybe at MOA (Mall of USA) My nephews now have dance pads! I've been doing some playing too! My legs yO! My legs!

Well the Impreza, it was a MY02 Platium Silver WRX. it has 3/4 frontal damage and blown airbags. The frame maybe out of shape, not where the eye can see it but internally. NO I didn't go to the place to check it out but from the pictures, it wasn't good.

I'm not ok with beer. It's bitter!

I don't check here very often either anymore. I only have time to regularly check so many boards every day, made more difficult by the split here.

My car was having some troubles starting in the 0º weather over the past couple weeks so I picked up an STi block heater and now it starts just as it would on a cool spring morning. I think it could start but I'd have to play with the maps some. But now the car warms up a lot faster too

As for Todd's shop it's in Roseville just west of the tank farms off I35. He runs it out of the garage of the place he currently works at, does work after hours or occasionally on weekends (if you pay him enough I imagine). If you have a pretty involved mod you want done to the car I could think of no other person than him, but he's pretty busy. I'm next in line to have him help me get these gauges installed. I'm really worried about the oil pressure sender since my oil system is working perfectly as it is and putting that in just invites a leak there if not done properly.

This cold weather ROCKS!!! Once my car is warmed up and driving the performance is prime with this cold air. It was tuned in weather not much warmer than this. I was able to wind it up to 7000rpm the other night driving home without the slightest hint of pinging and EGTs were right where they should be. The snow this morning should be fun

Not sure if your engine has a spare plug on top like mine did...but my sender is in there nicely, not even a hint of a leak. The recipe for no leaks includes 1 Subaru oil gallery plug, a couple of drops of Loctite, and a few inches of teflon tape. And since I assume yours will be mechanical, just add some sort of sturdy oil line. If your only option is to bypass the idiot light then it will be a slightly more annoying install.

I think I do have a plug on the top of the block, however the sender I have isn't meant to fit right to the block, but to T into an oil line or something. I was told to tap in near the PCV return but I don't want to use any compression fittings for copper tubing if at all possible; I'd rather just use pipe fittings. I'd also need some sort of thread adapter for it since the gauge is NPT and Subaru is BSPT. And no, the oil pressure gauge is not mechanical. Oil pressure and fuel pressure should not be mechanical as it is not recommended you run lines with fuel or oil into the cab. Those you have to isolate in the engine bay with a sender. Otherwise mechanical is any gauge that can give you a reading without power going to it, like my boost and EGT gauges. I think my coolant temp gauge is also mechanical.

I forgot what time the MNSC meet is today so unless the site comes back up I won't be able to make it. Anyone else going?

Default Another Minnesnowtan!!!

Hi all!

I live East of St. Paul. I have a WRX along with a few other toys. My Rex is my winter beater. Someday it may become a serious project car when I have more time and my tank of truck isn't taken up all the garage space.

From the looks of it I am probably the oldest one here and definitely not in the target demographics of the WRX. I have owned quite a few fast imports and a bunch of very fast AWD cars.

It could be fun to have a GTG sometime or maybe head to Rock Falls for some straight lining or maybe do one of the TC autoX's. I equally like drags, auto-X and road racing. I used to be pretty heavy into the street racing seen but since I moved to Minnesota I haven't seen the number of people here as I did in the South.

I sometimes hang out off University Ave. in the Midway area. Normally people just out cruising but the Fudruckers idea might not be bad. If it wasn't such a long cruise from my house it would be more appealing. My wife really gets into the racing maybe even more than me.

I am a serious speed junkie and have been all my life. I have had some seriously fast cars and motorcycles in my life. My motorcycle will run 200+ and my other car, not the WRX, will run 177 until the rev-limiter kicks in. Anyway I'd be in for any sort of cruising or get together. I have gone quite a few times to the drags over in Rock Falls, WI.

It could be nice to put faces to some of the names on the board.

-Tim

PS Anyone know of a 4wd dyno in the TC area?

Greetings, Tim. There is no AWD dyno in the state of Minnesota, at least to my knowledge. My understanding is that the nearest one is in Chicago.

You guys should have made it to the meet at Fuddrucker's today. We had a good turnout, maybe twenty people or so.

22-24mm rear sway bar set at 24mm
upgrade intake system
removed muffler
stock tires

huh? huh? hehe it's a possibility, right?

That's a shame about no AWD dyno in this state! I won't be able to make a Fuddruckers until about 2 weeks from now if I am lucky.

Anyone planning on going to the Autoshow in Chicago in a few weeks? It could be interesting to get a convoy together to ride down.

I can't even do donuts on dry pavement. You pretty much give up drifting by owning an AWD car. I've only done powerslides at around 70mph and it is not very fun It's not like I ever had training for high speed drifting, just some stuff in the woods doing lead car working RallySprints. Besides, the fastest way around the course didn't even involve sliding.

Gotta get an AE86 for drifting

I wish we had an AWD dyno here in town, it would making tuning this thing gobs easier. Everyone keep giving your money to Todd at Total Performance and he'll be the first to own a 4WD dyno in the state. I think he accepts donations too

I dunno about a convoy, but I am driving down for the second weekend of the show. Got an old high school buddy who lives in Chicago so I have a free place to stay.

And I hear rumblings that the Turbo Forester will be unveiled at the Show!
