96 Outback Sport Suspension Help
I will be "inheriting" my wife's 96 Imp Outback (selling the modded 92 Civic Si hatch to buy a van for the wife and kids).
Currently it is all stock with 70,000 miles and the original struts are about gone. Saw an ad for practically new (500 miles) springs and struts from a '00 Imp RS sedan. Will these springs/struts fit on my car? Which would be better, new KYB AGX struts with the stock springs or the combo mentioned above? Just a Subie newbie looking for info. Thanks.

the KYB's are adjustable... but either will work just fine... I'm in the same boat... need some money first though. My struts are way bouncy.

I am running AGX's and RS springs in my wagon. It's a big improvement. Dropped the car about 3/4 of an inch. The OBS will drop a little more as the springs are a little longer.
Many others have done this and enjoyed the results. I recommend getting a 17mm sway from a WRX wagon for cheap as well. Then some good tires, and brakes, and.... |

Thanks for the input...keep them coming.
I am quite familiar with the modding addiction...my 92 Civic Si has been dropped with Eibach springs, Bilstein struts, Suspsension Technique sway bars, upper strut bars, cross drilled / slotted rotors, short throw shifter, poly engine mount insterts, adj cam gear, k&n filter, DC Sports header, exhuast...to name but a few mods. The only thing I regret is that the 96 OBS is an auto tranny...oh the sacrifices we make for our families. |

I've got the KYB AGXs, too ($389 shipped from www.p-s-t.com) coupled with SPD/Eibach springs ($225 from www.spdusa.com), pretty nice suspension upgrade for <$650. Swapping out springs and struts are pretty easy on our cars, so if you have a few hand tools, a torque wrench and can rent or buy a spring compressor, you don't even need to pay for the install.

I may just go with the KYB AGX...found a killer price of $383 shipped for a set of 4. We'll have to see if I can convince the wife that springs are necessary also. She doesn't even think it needs struts.

Trent,
Would you know the spring rates on those wagon springs? Any pick of how low your car sits now? Thanks |

Nope, don't know about spring rates, sorry. I would imagine they are around the same rates that the RS Pro-Kit springs are. Yeah, I've got some pics somewhere hold on..........

Thanks Trent,
I see you painted the mud guards and the bump strips looks good. Were the bump strips hard to take off and on? I am thinking about painting them too. |

Hey, guys. Got the bumper from Sugar (Lisa) at Troncalli. I can't recommend her enough. She is great to work with. I don't remember the exact price, but I think the bumper beam and cover total around $450-$500.
linsavy, I don't know how tough they were to take off and on. The body shop did it for me. Sorry. Sorry about the first pick, you can just go here: http://barbaza.com/gallery/wrx/images/sushi/ - Trent |
