Default which to get? piaa ion crystal yellow fog bulbs or hella 500s?

Hi i was wondering what do you guys suggest i get? replacing my stock bulbs with piaa ion crystal yellow bulbs or getting the hella 500 foglights? Is the stock housing good enough? or would getting hella fogs improve lighting by much?

thanks for any suggestins

Unless you're driving in foggy rural areas regularly, just get the ions and you'll have yellow lights for not so much money.

hi did you buy brackets or make them urself? so from your experience which would be a better deal? 55 bucks shipped for the piaa bulbs or 75 bucks shipped for the hellas? did you have the clear hellas or the amber ones? thanks alot.

is the difference b/w changing just the bulbs and getting the hellas very noticeable? what diffs b/w the 2? wider further light output? thanks

If you're going to get the Hellas in a fog pattern, the difference won't really be all that much from the stock foglamp housing with PIAA Ion Crystal bulbs really. Now swapping driving lamps for the foglamps...

Brackets were from our friends at Kartboy.com

Both sets use the H3 bulbs

There is a HUGE difference between the light pattern of the Hellas compared to stock

i kinda want to get the driving lights cuz i feel the stock wrx headlights are pretty weak...but im afraid they'll be blinding for other ppl cuz i like to keep my fogs on when i drive.

thanks!

If you swap them for driving lamps you won't "legally" be able to drive with them turned on when others cars are around. Though you could probably adjust the beam to point downwards a bit and most people won't know the difference.

[though if you point them down, you totally negate their use as driving lamps...]

I have Hella 500 driving lights in my bumper (2003TS). I have them wired properly so they come on with the high beams. I left the fog light wiring in place so that I can put fogs in the bumper and move my driving lights up to my grill in the future.

Why did I go with Driving Lights rather than Fogs? How many time have I said to myself "Gee, I could really use fog lights right now" ? - answer, maybe once a year. How many time have I said "Gee, I wish my high beams were brighter" ? - answer, every time I drive on backroads at night.

Driving lights below the bumber are useless; way too much glare. I've had 500 fogs in the bumber for a long time, and snapping driving lenses into the housings was very distracting at night. So I got a set of Morettes instead, which nicely merge driving lights (Cibie Tango) above the bumper.

And my Hella foglights are almost always covered; they're useful at low speeds if you want to spot wildlife, but will impair your distance vision if you're moving fast.

I agree, driving lights should be mounted as high as possible, but I wanted to get driving lights first. That's why I left the wiring in place for the fogs. When I get the fogs the driving lights will move up to my grill area.

Unless you live in a foggy area I think fog lights are mainly for looks (Bling). Driving lights are next to useless for bling. You can't (shouldn't) have them on in the city or on busy highways. The only time you CAN have them on is when no one can see them.
