Uhhh I hate to tell you this, but I am told that when that shaft slides out, the gears or whatever was on them back in the tranny probably moved out of alignment... so it could quite possibly be time to rebuild the tranny. Or switch to a 5 speed.

While I don't know what the problem is, I will say that last week I did the same thing with the inner shaft on an auto tranny while pulling it... slid it back in and everything has been fine... Just have to make sure it really went all the way back in or you could be in trouble

Sounds like you got lucky Caleb... i suppose if everything was in just the right place you may get lucky and parts may re-allign.

I got lucky and it was the bad tranny I was REMOVING that had the shaft come out. The one going in (from Mark) had baling wire holding everything in... kept that wire on there until I was just about ready to mate up the bell housing.

Isnt my new title cool??

Actually mike, the shafts go in and out fairly easily

YOu just have to make sure its all back in correctly before installation, or you will destroy the front pump.

The inner shaft has slid out of every soob auto I have ever pulled. I have sold or reused at least 5 of those with no troubles.. the rest were scrapped, usually due to diff problems
