Default Recommendations on adding HP

I've read through a few of the threads where people have upgraded with turbo kits etc and must admit i'm pretty much in the dark with respect to most of it.

I've been told adding a cold air intake and upgrading my exhaust can produce 10-15% HP increases. With re to this recommendation, which manufacturers/models would you recommend? Or would you go about this differently?

If you're wondering what my intentions are, its simply to get it in the realm of 200 HP which i think is adequate. I don't race, and this will probably be the only thing i do, other than my Blizzak's to upgrade from stock. I just want our fun car to be a 1/4 bit more fun.

I've looked up the AVO 2.5 turbo kit and its priced at $4500 which i'm not inclined to do. If i could get away with under $1,000 that'd be fantastic. But again, i'm very naive to all this so hopefully nobody's ego's will come out if i'm off-base on what i should expect to be paying for such an upgrade.

I know there's alot of great minds on these boards so i'd appreciate your feedback!

I'm certain alot of the 2.5 impreza stuff will apply to our application. But without tearing into the engine a cold air intake and complete exhaust is about all there is. You may be surprized with what a engine back(headers and everything) exhaust will do.

Once the air flow is improved, going in and out, you might consider a fuel reg. and slightly bigger injectors. More HP= more air in and exiting, and more fuel being burned efficiently.

I really don't know how effective (if any, other than mental satisfaction), but earthing seems to give better torqu at lower RPM, and improve audio quality. I can't tell you where to look eartning 2.5 NA engine, but every Japanese car enthusiast web sites have at least one article on how to do and how wonderful this eco-tune is... I'm actually thinking about giving it a try when I get my Baja.

Got to Cobbtuning.com lots of goodies. They make a cold air intake for the Baja, exhaust, etc. A CAI, intermediate pipe and axle back (2.25") would be a great start to a better throttle response and sound. For the Cobb CAI and exhaust, maybe free up 10-15 horsies and loose ~ 800 dollars. Crank pulley, header, and other choices for even the Baja. See Ya.
