Default The official "Will this part fit my car?" thread

If possible, I would like to compile a list of general rules about part compatibility for suspension and brake bits. I didn't see one in the threads of note, and it seems to be a popular question.

The obvious ones are swaybars, strut tops/camber plates, and struts/springs/coilovers. There's other stuff like lateral links, Payam's STi control arm swap, etc etc. I just want to try to get a list of those things all in one thread.

I don't have a lot to add now, hopefully tomorrow.

john

Hmmm...suspension for WRX / STi

Struts:
'02+ WRX and '04 STi struts and coilovers are interchangable. If you want to use older MY struts w/ a newer topmount you need the 'washer mod'.
'05+ STi has a different knuckle, the bolts have moved.

Springs:
Lower perches are all the same, so you can use newer springs on older struts. You will need to buy the appropriate topmounts.

Swaybars:
WRX sedan and wagon RSB's are interchangable. WRX's can use STi RSB's, but they will mount to the outside of the endlinks. WRX and STi FSB's are interchangable. Wagons use different FSB's than sedans and can't swap.

Topmounts:
For all WRX and STi, the top 3-hole pattern is the same. '04+ topmounts can be use on older struts...see 'washer mod'. Older topmounts can be used on newer struts. In both cases you need the appropriate MY springs.

Camber plates:
Any plate designed for an Impreza will fit any other. As stated above, the 3-hole pattern is the same. The piston diameter for the interface is also the same. Camber plates are darn near universal.

I'm doing this all from memory off mods I've done. If I've gotten something backwards, let me know.

Good luck! I tried to start something similar with I did my suspension FAQ. I just wanted to limit it to:

JDM Ver 7 fits _______

JDM Ver 8 fits _______

etc.

Everyone pretty much laughed at me and called me a n00b with very little help. Good luck to you though!

EDIT http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1083037 makes a good arguement for fitment/upgrade for OEM components.

Yeah...I guess having a desired format would be good. Figure that out and let the rest of us know. I'm more than willing to help out and contribute what I can.

Fill in the blank would be much easier- I think I have a lot of the answers- just not the questions That's Imprezas mind you- start adding Legacy/Forester it gets even more dicey.

There is also a small caveot to "fit", many parts will "fit", but not fit

Ya, we need to set up some kind of format for this first so we can help fill it in...

I'm thinking if we identify the platforms first, it should be straightforward from there.

Basically, something like:
93-01 Impreza (all)
02-06 Impreza (non-STi)
04 STi
05-06 STi

Within each of those platforms, come up with the rules, ex:

Quote:
02-05 Impreza (non-STi)

Struts:
Any 02-05 Impreza non-STi struts/coilover kits (duh)
Newer topmounts can be used with the washer mod (insert URL here)

Swaybars:
Sedan:
-Any 02-05 Impreza non-STi swaybars
-STi swaybars + endlinks
Wagon: Needs wagon specific front swaybar
-All rear swaybars fit
That's my first crack at it... basically much of what Scooby921's post contained, in more of an outline form...?

This is going to get even more complicated that we thought, because there are so many small items that may work across an entire platform, not just model.

ie...N/A Impreza vs. WRX. Both are Imprezas and share some parts like suspension bits, but yet the way it seems we are planning this list things like that may not have been considered.

Either way, just give me the outline / format you'd like to see and I can start filling in what I know.

To answer the question...I believe so. I haven't done the swap myself, but I don't see a reason why it wouldn't.

I took a crack at it a couple posts up. The problem is, like you said, there will be caveats. I figure we will start out with generalizations that might be wrong and refine them as people fill the exceptions in.

I was wondering where this thread went.

Ok, so I'm going to take your format above and fill in everything I know for suspension stuff.

One other possibility is to merge everyone's "will this fit" thread in here, and then slowly create a list of questions/answers in the first post. *shrug*

Yes, but I think they are the same size, 17mm, so what's the point?

No, the STi swaybars will not fit your car.
