New e-bay FMIC...not made from Burmese Soda cans.
SSAC (ebay FMIC) FAQ: Step By Step Installation instructions by sick1.8t Q:Who makes this kit? A:The kit is made my XS Power and sold by them ans SSAutoChrome on ebay. Q:Where can I buy this kit? A:You can purchase the kit from www.SSAutoChrome.com or from their Ebay Store and you can also search ebay for "scooby fmic" to find the kit. You can also email DeeDee to purchase the kit at [email protected] Q:How much is the kit? A:[OLD ANSWER]As of July 31, 2006 the kit can be purchased from www.SSAutoChrome.com for $379.00 shipped but some have gotten it off ebay for $350.00 shipped. A:Feb 2007:You can email SSAC and get the FMIC for $295.00 shipped or you can purchase it here. http://app.infopia.com/Shop/Control/...d/0/rid/123710 Q:What else do I need to purchase? A: 1) If you plan to use the stock BPV you need a WBR Bov Adapter (aqka:TurboXS BOV Adapter flange) 2) Any type of cone filter. Pepboys sell a universal K&N cone filter but any 3inch outlet cone filter should work. 3) A 2.5"-2.75" silicone REDUCER. Search ebay. 4) A 1 1/4inch 90deg elbow hose to attach your stock BPV to the FMIC piping. 5) Some of the newer kits seem to have a problem with the 90deg elbow that attaches to the turbo so one might need to be purchased. Your best bet it to try the elbow on your turbo before trying to install everything. The elbow should be 2inch to 2.5inch 90deg elbow. Q:Will my Intake work with this FMIC? A:It's been confirmed the Perrin shortram, SPT and the Cobb Short Ram fit correctly. Most shortram intakes "should" fit but any CAI is out of the question since the piping uses the same hole in the fender well as the CAI do. Q: Is the provided intake any good? A: It's a 70mm that tapers to 65mm. It works about as well as the stock box does. ADDED NOTE:Be sure to check the MAF adapter for air leaks. The rubber gasket provided with the intake is rather cheesy but can be fixed with a little silicone. Q:This is a direct bolton kit? A:Like most stuff even bolton kits require minor modifications. This kit will require you to cut your bumper to fit the IC behind it. You will also need to put on a new coolent overflow (provided in the kit). Some I have heared needed to lower their fuel filter a bit to get the kit in. Q:Where is the install manual? A:Intallation Manual Q:Can I keep my fog lights? A:Yes. ALL years (2002 to 2006) can retain their fog lamps. Q: Does the kit say XS Power on it? A:Not anymore. The kits in the beginning cam with "XS Power" spray painted on the IC but SSAC has stopped doing that. Q:How are the other ebay FMIC kits? A:This thread is NOT about them. This thread deals with the SSAC FMIC only. If you want feel free to start a new thread for the other kits. Q:How can I stop my couplers from popping off a high boost? A:Matth3w came up with a good idea. Quote:
A:2002 to 2006 WRX & STi (should fit the 2007 but I haven't seen anyone test it yet) Q:Will my BOV work with this FMIC? A:Any BOV that will normally attach to a TMIC "should" bolt on if you buy the flange. Q: How do I cut the bumper? A: You need to fit it, take it off, cut more, test fit it again to see where it rubs or interferes, cut more, over and over, rinse and repeat. You can look at pictures that others have posted to get a general idea of where you are cutting, but you won't really "get it" until it you're doing it. Use this Dremel bit, cuts through the plastic like butter: http://freon.shackspace.com/car/fmic/dremel.jpg PHOTOS: http://freon.shackspace.com/car/fmic ALL information is gathered from this thread. If anything is wrong I take ZERO responsibility. As always do your homework before buying. ================================================== ================================= END FAQ ================================================== ================================= It's a shame this thread was closed so quickly with any regards to the valued information inside it. I think it was poorly handled and thats all I'm going to say about that. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ight=ebay+FMIC Now since these are back for sale on ebay I thought it would be good to keep the thread alive for new people. Does anyone know if the new kits come with the reducer or do you still need to pick one up? I'm planning to pick one up at the end of Jan so any further information would be great. I believe you'll still need the reducer. I should be receiving mine next week and will post some more info and pics.

I'd consider the kit well equipped. They leave out a 3" ID cone airfilter element and a 2.5 to 2.75 hose, but include a shortram MAF piece, vacuum hose (presumably to replace the metal tubes on the front of the factory IC that are removed?), a coolant overflow tank, nice machine screw style hose clamps, etc. I'm not sure if SS or aluminum is better. I'd probably tend towards aluminum, but I doubt it really matters much. Both are pretty thin in this application. As long as they don't break I'd call it moot. The SSA is stainless and pretty lightweight. The core is aluminum (duh) and pretty damn heavy. Stainless is pretty bling, which could be a good or bad thing. Again, I'd probably pick aluminum if I had a choice. I'll try to remember to weigh the parts, but I only have a bathroom scale. I should be able to get a reasonable number for the core at least. In any case I'm glad to see they are giving such a good price on these. I thought for sure that they would jack the price when the new ones came in. Atleast the company has that much going for them. |

I ordered my kit last week and it was sitting at my door chritmas eve day. Very fast shipping and everything looks great! Got the intercooler installed and the bumper cut. Putting the piping in this weekend. I alos had to buy the reducer but got if off ebay for $11 bucks. For the price $425 shipped you can't beat this kit. Rip on it all you want it is a very good and well designed kit! Couldn't be happier.

The fitment was poor, they had to return my money for the crappy part.
You get what you pay for, pick up a Turbo XS one on ebay for the extra $200. |

That would be like BBS or Volk suing Rota for making cheep rims that look the same. Unless SSAC starts to call there kit a Turbo XS TMIC and selling it as such, there isn't **** those dumb asses could have done. Funny how they tried to though. |

Also don't you need to put an after market bumper brace for the txs one while this one comes with one. I think knocking a product cause of where people buy it is dumb. I can buy a dell pc on ebay does that make them all crap? |

The coupler cost me $13 off of ebay. The air filter can be found at autozone for $20. Not a bad deal. It's still $750 cheaper than the other decent FMIC's out there. But we already know this. I would rather have aluminum because it won't hold heat as much not to mention being lighter. But I can take that comprimise. Quote:
Also, does anyone know what size is the BOV port? |

I've got some ebay parts on my old car and my WRX, not so many now but some ebay stuff is just as good, you never know. Would I ever buy that, NO I know a tuning shop that makes nice FMIC and can make em black and look sexy! |

I ordered mine via fax last Thursday and got it on Saturday! The new kit does not have XS Power painted on the core anymore. Not sure what if anything(like the reducer) is missing as I am not ready to install quite yet.

My SSA XS Power FMIC kit came with everything, but the reducer hose, like this one as shown here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-5-2...spagenameZWDVW
I just took a break(beer) from installing it the kit now. So far just got the front bumperbeam off and mounting the FMIC core to the new bumper beam and man does it LOOK GREAT !! It is so much nice than what I was expecting for $425 shipped... If you all got any questions on it hit me up in a little while when I get done with her. *The BOV coupler is: 1 1/8 internal and 1 1/4 outside. BTW, hey Freon, what is the black cylender with the small hole at the top for do you know, my kit didn't come with directions? Last edited by SolidSnake; 04-16-2006 at 09:00 PM. |
