ETA: did you buy fuse taps?
that was the most confusing part for me because the lines on the Defi gauges have an inline 3a fuse. so i was really confused about using the double slotted fuse taps with a second 3a fuse. so in the end, you remove the fuse for power and illumination and insert the double slotted fuse tap. but the regular fuse on one slot to re-complete the circuit and a 3a in the second slot. i got my 3a fuses at Radio Shack and the fuse taps at Advance Auto. lots of fail vs. running around. but it was fun. wasting gas and what not. |

Just installed the same combo! thanks for all the info
A few things I had trouble with You need add-a-circuit fuse taps, they're expensive The alternator was a bitch to remove Here were my steps: 1) remove cover 2) Loosen (a couple turns) alternator hanger bolt (on the right side of the alternator where it allows it to swivel 3)Take off tensioner bolt (it's a bolt parallel to the floor and connected to the tensioner bracket. 4) Take off the tensioner bracket bolt 5) Take off the alternator hanger bolt 6) Take the alternator out by pushing forward and pulling back, kind of a rocking motion towards the left. (put in the same way) I routed the wires through the driver side fender with the wheel on (i just turned it for more accessibility). I took out 2 of the fender well plastic push ins and one Phillips head push pin. I stabbed the grommet on the top where there wasn't any wires so it was easy to sort out. You have to choose a really good place to ground and the area I used is to the left of the fuse box. I opened the door and pushed in from the fuse box area to pop out the plastic covering. You'll see a good spot there. |

I'm pretty sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find it. One the fuse taps, which location replaces the stock fuse and which is the add on for the gauges. Is it the slot closest to the panel when plugged in? I used the same one for both slots but finally found some 3 amp ones that I want to swap in.
Thanks guys! |

Sorry, I'm looking at work and for some reason it blocks certain pictures. That could be one of them I saw earlier that wasn't coming through. I'll check it out from home I guess haha. Thanks.

why is oil pressure so high on a cold start up?
Should I be waiting until it drops to about 80? |

Usually the new wire is directly inline with the fuse slot. Also generally this is the slot farthest away from the prongs that go into the original fuse slot. You can always check this by removing one of the fuses and seeing if your powered object still gets power, if it does then it is the other fuse (and if it won't power on, then you have found your fuse).

The original fuse should go into the slot closest to the prongs. New fuse for the add on in the slot farthest from prongs.

Just curious but do these gauges have adjustable brightness? Or are the illumination on or off?

The Defi gauges dim when you turn the lights on but they're not adjustable.

Checkout the white needle series from Prosport. I have them and they are reasonably priced and they match the OEM gauges perfectly! They don't dim but depending on how you wire them the gauges can be white (brighter) when the headlights are off and red when the headlights are on (the brightness is about that of the highest level on the OEM and the color matches including the white needles). I have them wired up for red all of the time but when it's bright out the color fades a little and doesn't match since there aren't any shrouds (might be able to put the ones on that come with but I didn't want to). I'll take some pictures later and post them up (day and night).

Side question:
Is the oil pressure needle supposed to fluctuate quite often? When i let go of throttle, my oil pressure drops from 80 psi to 50 then to 60 then to 40 all pretty quickly. Is it normal for it to fluctuate like that or is it supposed to go straight from 80-40 and stay there? Thanks |

Yes, the engine builds pressure when driven.

hahahahah! That "Prosport" link^^^^.
But in all seriousness, I love the Prosport electrical gauges! I personally think they look sweet and they are pretty reliable. |

I just finished the install yesterday and success! everything works. Big thanks to O.C.D. Without this write up I would be lost.
Quick question for anyone wiring this up in an STI. It is a tight squeeze in the bay trying to T off of the bypass valve hose. I didn't snap a good picture of my set up, but lets just say it is not pretty and involves some zipties for peace of mind. I did find this set up from THIS write up. Anyone else have pictures of how they set up the T here? Also where did you purchase your actual T? I am having a trouble since the bypass hose has quite a bit larger inner diameter. Thanks for anyones help. |

I was about to rip my sideskirt and some other panels off to get the plastic out from the fender, but then I saw you do it with the wheel off. Definitely saved me tons of headaches and whatnot. I cannot thank you enough O.C.D for making this guide

i got it done and i can barely turn a wrench. Im did a number on that fender liner but oh well its back on. The alternator was a 6/10 difficulty for a novice like me. Getting it back on properly with the belt nice was a bit of a pain. everything else good.
you also need a small wrench to get the pressure sender threaded into the bung cause there isnt much space for a monkey wrench. the T for the boost hose needs to be purchased at an auto parts store. THANKS O.C.D for the help i really appreciate it :P Last edited by BroBroBroBroBro; 12-13-2012 at 09:15 PM. |

Does anyone have experience with Depo Racing gauges? I have most of the installation complete I am just stuck trying to power the gauge. The instructions tell me to connect one wire to "acc" and the other to "Battery (+)" I have have fuse taps connected to each wire and a 5A fuse for the new connection. I just dont know where to connect them after that.

I just wrapped up installing mine. I ran all the wires, buttoned everything back up except for 1 piece. The oil pressure sending unit. I've got the oil pressure gauge installed and hooked up (power/ground/illumination/ignition) so the gauge boots up and looks nice. However because I haven't installed the actual oil pressure sending unit the gauge bounces off of 130-140 PSI.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the T-piece that is supposed to come with the Defi boost gauge (and maybe where I could get one)? I purchased the gauge for the holidays and it is missing the T-piece.
