Default Swapping Lock Cylinders in 02 Impreza Glove Box

So I ham-fisted the glove box latch of my 02 WRX on a cold morning the other week, and it broke both the small handle and the mounting point on the lock housing itself. Got a new one from the yard, I just need to find a way to get the lock cylinder (about the diameter of a dime) out of the black plastic casing and swap the locks. Anyone know what to do? I'd really like a functional glove box again!

Just took my lock apart. Looks like you don't have to swap the cylinder and you can replace only that plastic handle.
Use flathead screwdriver and pry it out from the side shown on the picture. Be careful and do not brake it.

HOPEFULLY THAT WILL HELP YOU.

Thanks for your post, but I broke both the handle and the mounting tab on the housing. I'm trying to go one step farther than you did, and take the lock cylinder out of the plastic housing (top of the three, 2nd pic).

There is a release clip in the lock itself. I just changed the locks in my car. Look at the area around the lock. It basically unclips and slides out of the housing. Grab you a small flat head, and look around the lock cylinder. It may even be on the bottom, I can't remember.

Once you find it, it's simple to get the thing out. Take your time. If you can post more pics, I may be able to point it out to you.

I know im reviving a very old thread but i came across this post and just wanted to update for anyone else. There is a copper colored tab on the back of the cylinder that you take a small flat head and then push the copper tab towards the center of the cylinder then the cylinder will slide right out.

Default Removing cylinder

1. Remove housing around cylinder by prying it with a flat head screwdriver or knife. Use the flat head if you are worried about scratching things.

2. Open glove box and remove the two screws across from eachother in the center (not directly across from eachother)

3. Flip the latch assembly to it's back and where the lock cylinder is you will see a metal plate. Use a flat head screw drive or knife and slide that plate over. It's slides easily. While holding that to the side, on the opposite side grab the cylinder and pull it out.
