Meh, not necessarily. I owned a 2011 Golf TDI two-door for a year and a half, and that b-pillar blind spot was atrocious for me. Then I sat in a 4-door variant, and I could see fine.

That's what I use the back doors in my WRX for most of the time, and I miss them on the BRZ (not that I am complaining, it was never meant to be a practical car). Most rally drivers prefer 4 doors for the same reason, it's easier to toss your helmet and whatever else in the back during transits. For a car that is supposed to be practical, 4 doors makes more sense. I hope they do an autocross event for this like they did with the focus st.

I used to drive a CRx daily, so to me, having a rear seat is purely a formality. I very rarely have more one passenger.
Less doors means less weight, less parts to creak and rattle, less of a "grocery getter church-wagon" look, and often a shorter wheelbase. All those things make the car more fun, to me.
I wish VW (or anyone) built something like an A1 GTI. And if such a car were awd, that would seal the deal.
I don't get Subaru. The only coupe they sell has no awd. No RS model.
With gas prices, and the growing demand for Fiesta-sized and priced cars, seems like Subaru would make a more Justy-like model.
I know if a two door Impreza had been available, I'd have bought that.
I'd buy a Golf R if they'd knock ten grand off the price, too

Yes I do, that's why I said it. If you aren't going to contribute to the question I posed you need not reply.

At this size, I don't even think I would put the rear seat up, except in very rare occasions. Maybe someone will come up with a rear seat delete like in the Fiat. It is just as easy to throw the briefcase or what ever in the rear via the lift gate. Also, it to me looks much cleaner as a 3 door.

I wouldn't mind the next WRX come in closer to this size...I know it won't, but I can dream can't I.

Esthetics for starters, it feels sportier from the inside as well as looking it from the outside imo. It would be that 95 Civic Si I never got to have when I was younger.

I'll take the 4 door as well, but I'd rather have the ST in 2dr. I also throw my stuff in the back seat of my 4 door because I'm used to it, I'm sure I can get over it. It does suck being a rear passenger in a coupe, especially if you're a windows down kind of person. In any event, I'm super interested in this car. I bought my Kia at a Kia/Ford drealership, so there is a good chance I may trade mine in.

For me there are two empirical differences between a 2 and 4 door.

2 door: The B pillar *can* be set back further allowing for more comfortable arm out the window driving. This is countered by overly long doors leading to a more difficult egress and ingress. This also means possibly more chipping them.

4 door: Far more practical. I almost never have to use my trunk to carry groceries (they tend to move a lot more in the trunk than the back seat). I carry a toolbox behind my driver's seat and access to it would be that much more difficult in a 2 door.

Aesthetics are pointless to argue unless we're comparing an Aztek to an Italia.

That article is a bit old but we're less than a week away to finding out at the LA Autoshow. I'd bet my money on the Fiesta ST having 4 doors.

I really hope it has an IRS, but I doubt it will. I've never driven a "sporty" car with an IRS and every rental car I've driven with a solid rear has been laughably bad in bumpy corners. Are they all like that?

The styling is great but if they could just make the headlights more pointed and longer so they can run from the front of the car to the rear bumper it would be really sick like throw up. Circular.

In the past this was often true, but today less doors often equals more weight. The longer doors of a 2-door variant have to span a greater distance between the A and B pillar, yet have to pass the same side impact standards. The resultant heavier door often more than cancels out the weight savings of having two fewer of them. Just check out the weights of common 2 vs 4 door versions of cars like the Civic, 3-series, Infiniti G etc. The coupe is always a bit heavier than the sedan. The M3 is a slight exception to the rule, but only because the coupe has a carbon fiber roof.

Well, shumway, it may not be a weight difference. Maybe it will.
It still looks better as a 2d imo. A shorter wheelbase (possibly) and less church lady appearance still sounds more fun.
@warpath- yeah, I read that. But I just wanted to- you know, have conversation.
If the car in my above link is very appealing to me as I HATE my 2012 Impreza. I'll still be interested in a 4d but don't begrudge me for not having kids or golf clubs to haul around in the "back seat".

Oh, I don't. I would like a 2dr as well. Or at least an option for one.

Yes that would be great even to have it as an option. Maybe if they sell well enough, more models will follow, assuming that it is indeed going to come with 4 doors, which looks likely.
I'm still excited about the transmissions and seats!
Speaking of options, I wish the 2012 imprezas had a 6mt option. I'd have gladly spent the extra money.

Its great to see the USDM finally embrace a proper hot hatch market, only took creeping gas prices to knock dome sense in the auto companies
