OMG, I get SOO many calls from people like this. The best part is when you ask them if it's plugged in they get all indignant. Like "of course it is! I'm not an idiot..."

oh yeah, and IBTM.

<FONT face="Comic Sans MS">You think that is bad... when I worked at Best Buy as a tech, we had a guy call in absolutely belligerant. I asked him to calm down a bit and tell me what was wrong. He said that when he bought the computer, he was told Windows 98 was on there. He said that his did not. I tried to tell him that it all comes pre-installed, and that there was no real way for a computer to get out the door without an OS... hell, we even did the setup on it, so I know the damn thing had windows. He got belligerant again, and then proceeded to use a few choice "colloquial phrases" about my intelligence. He stated, and I quote, "I know Windows 98 is not on this machine. I have been up and down the "start" menu for **3 HOURS** and it's not on here dammit!!!" When I explained to him that Win98 was a "program" per se and was the OS, he said something like "oh yeah I knew that" and hung up. He didn't know what Win98 was, but dern it all to heck he was DAMNED if he wasn't getting it! No better of course than the lady who bought a monitor and said she couldn't figure out how to turn her Imac on (Best Buy doesn't even sell Mac's mind you) or where the second plug went. You gotta love our society... catering to the stupidest common denominator

A friend of mine is a student at Oregon State University and works for the Information Services department. One time he got called to a girl's dorm because she couldn't get her computer to turn on. She had sworn up and down on the phone that everything was plugged in.

When he got there, sure enough, everything was plugged in. Except that the powerstrip was plugged into itself.

Heh.

One guy where I work would put a little scotch tape at the bottom of the mouse. He's gotten so many people with that!

The funny thing is that this was a serious picture for an article! As Nelson would say "ha - haaa!"

Couple of my favorites...
go into keyboard settings and change the keyboard type to dvorak

Hit print screen with apps up. paste into paint. save as BMP and set as the wall paper. Now minimize all the windows, drag all icons and task bar off the screen.

have fun.

IBTM!

When I did help desk, one lady removed the floppy part of the floppy disk and put it in the slot. And then came to me and said it wasn't working... She didn't like it when I told her she just lost all her work.

And more recently.... I played a joke on our tech support person. I put some really nasty hip-hop song in her Start Up. I was in the room when she booted like 2 months later and just died. She hadn't fixed it yet! She thought Napster did it.
