Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60's Defective??
So on 12/18/2012 I put on a pair of new Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60s on my '13 STi. 225/45/17 with '06 Gold BBS wheels. What a NIGHTMARE. On the way home (we just had a little haill the day before), I was driving on the highway and the car felt disconnect from the car when moving lanes at 55MPH. It felt like hydroplaning. I have nearly collided with a car because the tires just don't turn well. I took the tires in the day after I got them to make sure they were put on right, and tightened to right properly.
Even at low 35mph speeds I feel like the tires are losing traction. On 2nd gear on all roads I lose traction and have to force shift myself into third to get going. It has been really scary with these things on the car. My question is: Is this NORMAL for the LM-60? Even if it is I'm requesting an exchange with Discount tire. The DOT# is 0312 (3rd week 2012?) How can this be? Is there something wrong with my STi?

Thats not normal. I am 100% confident in mine 235/45/R17 whether im on ice snow etc. Sounds like a defective tire. I would see if the place that installed them would give you another set.
The car will feel a little different because its a softer rubber and the tread flexes alot but you definitely shouldnt be having those issues. |

There is nothing wrong with your tires u need to adjust yourself and proper tire pressure. I'm on my second season with mine and one thing for sure is proper tire pressure makes all the difference. For highway 36 front, 35 rear except in really bad snow and ice drop them down to 33 front 32 rear.
What I meant by adjusting yourself is that u were use to a certain way of how your suby handled and now has drastically bin changed and u will have to change your driving habits. The lm-60's r a great performance winter tire as I have no complaints but I know exactly what u r experiencing hope this helps Edit: if this issue still persist then I would look at getting an alignment. Also is your suspension stock?? Last edited by trev762; 12-23-2012 at 08:13 AM. |

LM-60 is not great performance winter tire. There are much better tires but probably not available in the USA this winter.
What was the weather like when you experienced such terrible handling? Dry? Wet? Temperature? Are you sure you have LM-60 and not WS-60? Krzys |

Since these are directional tires, are all the tires correctly mounted and rotating in the correct direction? |

Think "dirt bike" when you are driving on snow tires, not "go kart"...
Everything needs to loosen up, including you... Let the car move and find grip, don't try forcing it... You'll start to get it... Explore the limits somewhere safe... Once you start getting it down, it's soooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun... |

So true. Apparently, a lot of people don't realize that winter tires need breaking in for several hundred miles before they can achieve maximum traction.
Case in point, this customer review at tirerack of Michelin X-Ice Xi3 tires with only 100 miles on them: "I checked Consumer Reports before I ordered these tires: Michelin X-Ice Xi3's. ............ We just had a snow, then rain, freeze overnight, with snow again. So, this is the first time today that I have actually used them on snow and ice. They are great on snow, but not so much on ice. I slid about 10 feet on one road, and when I started to go on a green light, the tires spun and went sideways. I learned very quickly to stop about 20 feet behind another car and to not go over 20 mph on the ice!..........." |

Does anyone know what the proper PSI would be for these tires? I think it's 35 all around currently. It's about 20-30*F where I live right now.
